It Shouldn’t Be a One-Man Show…Where are the Rest of You?

One single resident of Ravena steps out and creates a place for the kids

A One-Man-Show Won't Work

A One-Man-Show Won’t Work

To Get the Best Out of It We Have to Team Up

Coming together is a beginning. Keeping together is progress. Working together is success.

Coming together is a beginning.
Keeping together is progress.
Working together is success.

In the meantime one single Ravena resident takes his savings and his time, gets a second job to do something for the kids. Something the kids really need: a place to go other than the street! And they get rides home after the club closes…in his care, not in a Coeymans police vehicle. While the village of Ravena is shelling out hundreds of thousands of dollars for a handful of special friends, and the town of Coeymans is busy looking the other way while leaving youth services to the Coeymans Police Department, one single resident of Ravena steps out and creates a place for the kids: the Ravena-Coeymans Youth and Teen Activities Center (RCYTAC).

Parents and residents of Ravena-Coeymans: When’s the last time you visited the RCYTAC? I visited just the other day and I was floored to see how nice it is. I was floored to see a lot of teens who I know personally enjoying the place. Those kids actually stopped, greeted me and were happy to see me there. They actually looked, well, happy! The disk jockey’s a teen, the food service staff are teens, the teens learning how to take charge and socialize. As I was visiting, kids were strolling in but none were coming out so I assumed that they were involved in one of the many available activities…all of them monitored and supervised, mind you!

While I was standing outside with Mr Michael Fisher, creater of the RCYTAC, I was amazed when a parent came up and asked if she could donate the refreshments from her son’s grad party, because he decided that he didn’t want a party and that the RCYTAC should have it. The parent also made a fairly generous cash contribution for the kids. That same parent, a psychologist and author of children’s books, is planning to do poetry and literature workshops at the RCYTAC! Question: What are YOU doing?

I have one single question, parents, residents: Where the hell are the rest of you????

Why is it you’d risk leaving your kids unsupervised, in their rooms, on Facebook, being evil? Why wouldn’t you give them a ride to the RCYTAC where they can socialize in a healthy environment?

Why is it you’d risk your teen’s wandering around dark streets and parks at risk of life and limb? Why wouldn’t you give them a ride to the RCYTAC where they can socialize safely?

Why is it you don’t enjoy some personal time to recuperate without the unnecessary stress of either knowing where your kids are or, worse still, not knowing?!? Why wouldn’t you give them a ride to the RCYTAC where they can socialize in a healthy environment?

Why is it you’d risk having the Coeymans Police, the Albany County Sheriff, or the State Police bringing your kid home or bringing your the news of his or her arrest, bail, court appearances—or worse, news of a tragedy— when you could have supported the RCYTAC with some time and a couple of bucks donation?

Tens of thousands, hundreds of thousands of your tax dollars are being spent on worthless projects like a village fitness center

Why is it you sit back oblivious to the fact that tens of thousands, hundreds of thousands of your tax dollars are being spent on worthless projects like a village fitness center that is exclusive and unwelcoming to many in the community, while youth programs and services are ignored? Why aren’t you demanding that some of that money be donated no strings attached to the RCYTAC?!? No strings attached! We don’t want it to become a Coeymanazi brainwashing camp, do we? Why aren’t you parents and residents appearing at village and town board meetings screaming bloody murder that nothing is being done for youth…well almost nothing, the Coeymans police seem to like arresting them. Don’t you realize that if the kids are off the streets and not looking for something to do, they’ll likely stay out of mischief?prison kid

Ravena Coeymans Selkirk teens and youth are tomorrow’s consumers and voters; If you mobilze NOW and get your parents to support your projects, you can move on local government and get those geezers to support your RCYTAC. BE YOUR OWN RCS CHAMPIONS!!!

Teen Work is Team Work

Teen Work is Team Work

success

Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk teens: Why would you stick with street friends who will only get you into a mess of trouble? Why don’t you get smart and mobilize for your own good? Michael Fisher is handing you the opportunity to do something really good, important, responsible, independent for you and your generation at the Teen Center. Mr Fischer is handing you the opportunity to show that you can become a part of something great, you can be your own leaders, you can create a community you can be proud of, and you can empower yourselves and your friends to get the attention of local residents and government to take an interest in your welfare, in your RCYTAC, to support Mr Michael Fisher’s vision for RC youth. Ravena Coeymans Selkirk teens and youth are tomorrow’s consumers and voters; If you mobilze NOW and get your parents to support your projects, you can move on local government and get those geezers to support your RCYTAC. Be fair! Don’t make Mr Fisher do it all on his dime…he just can’t do it without your help and support.

Really Bad Move!

Really Bad Move!

As scary as the girls’ Facebook exchanges were, some good points were made such as: Being bad is not cool because it will come back to bite you in future, when you’ll really need to prove who and what you are. Beating someone up is not cool, it’s criminal, and it’s not going to get you a job or an education; it’s going to get you a reputation and a bad one at that and one that’s likely to follow you wherever you go. But if you are a leader now and to take the initiative to work for community, that’s going to serve you well for the rest of your lives. Be smart…be leadership…be champions!

Why is it you are sitting there thinking that your kids are getting the most out of the school district budget? Are you in denial or just plain stupid? Have you examined the school budget to see just how much of it is “for the kids”? You might want to do that one day. And don’t be misled by the dumbing down of the curriculum or the fancy-sounding names they give to programs that are there just to enrich the staff with extra pay. Ask yourself why an athletics coach or a teacher is being paid 4-6 times the per capita income of RC residents or 2-3x the average household income of a RC household? Then ask yourself why you haven’t made a substantial donation to the RCYTAC for the valuable service of keeping your kids safe (the school system doesn’t seem to be able to do that), saving you bail money, and even possibly saving you funeral expenses. Blunt, but real.

Empowered Youth

Empowered Youth

We support what is good for this community and most especially what is good for our greatest hope and asset: our teens and youth. We adults who have the good sense and vision realize that some day we are going to have to depend on today’s youth when they are making the decisions and running things. And the kind of people I want to see running things for me when I need them are the kind of teens and youth I saw at the Ravena-Coeymans Youth and Teen Activity Center.

It’s Important to You…We can do better for our teens and youth!

Everyone these Days Seems to Believe that They’re “Entitled,”
That they Have a Right to Something, Everything, Without Work or Investment.

That’s The American LIE!

They'll see through your lies!

They’ll see through your lies!

And Where that Bullshit Frame of Mind Came From Nobody Seems To Care But It’s A Slippery Slope and Loaded with Unpleasant Surprises

you can do better

The fact is, parents may think they’re giving their kids what the kids need but the parents don’t really have a clue. Do they? The parents are constantly pushing (their kids and government), demanding (of the kids and of administrators) more, More, MORE! And so on that idiotic, unrealistic example, the kids want more, More, MORE and there’s soon less, Less, LESS to give—at least less of anything worth having, that is. So, the parents came from a disposable society and culture and their kids have learned the lesson well. Where does it all lead, this mindset of individualism, “my rights”, “I need”, “Whatever!” “If it feels good, do it!” Well, Ravena found out this past week when a 20-year old forced a young girl to “pleasure” him—at knife-point! Is that what it’s coming to? I want and you’re going to give. Is that what you parents are teaching your children?

Sure, you go out and “realize yourselves,” advance your careers and have the jobs because you want your kids to have a better life. Lies! Stop deceiving yourselves! You grew up in a liberal, post-modern world that emphasized individualism, false-egos, materialism. You have become the drones of capitalism and the 1% and don’t even have the brains to realize it! The lights are on but nobody’s home in Brainville! Duh-ha-ha! The feminists have scandalized womanhood and motherhood; the women have degraded themselves and as a consequence have destroyed American manhood. Just look at some of the male characters portrayed on prime-time TV. Fat, stupid, humiliated. American Idol, reality TV…and you all eat it up, living other people’s lives and not realizing that you’re forgetting your own lives and are becoming increasingly…ugly!

This ain't better when you're 16!

This ain’t better when you’re 16!

So, that’s the reproductive-age adults in our midst. Depressed, overweight, hateful, ignorant, and reproducing a generation of lonely, overfed, over-stimulated, precociously hormonally overdosed (thanks to the food industry’s profit projections), lonely, frightened, aggressive, angry children…children who think they are adults because they’re forced by adults to think that way…it’s easier for the adults when they can manipulate their children into thinking they can fend for themselves while the female and male breeding partners—please note I did not write “parents”— are off “realizing” their “selves.”

Here’s an exchange on unsupervised Facebook activity by a group of middle-school girls (Names have been changed, of course!):who will save us

Jessy: … your the one that needs to grow up, say it to our faces not on facebook…. when you apply for a job they check your facebook, this will come back to haunt youJ

Nancy: Why are you doing this? If they are not going to throw the first punch them be the better person and stop. Your what 13? You shouldn’t be fighting. If they wanna act stupid then let them but do not go down to their level because your making yourself angry just thinking about it and runing your summer. Do you want to do that? Stop the fighting. Seriously.

Angie: no it wont jess u said u wanted to kill me that is against the law u told me how u would do it too so yea dont fuck with me or my family.

Jessy: Nancy, i dont wanna fight her but she keeps sayin this stuff, the truth behind it was that i was losing my temper, and i cant control myself under my temper. and tati that is such a lie i never said that, telling the story from fifth grade/ getting punched in the collar bone, wont kill you for one and for two i said leave me alone before someone gets hurt, implying anyone including myself, example i punched a metal door and have a huge bruise on my wrist

Angie: thats ur own faut i told u not to say it u still said im done i mean idk if i can ever trust u again i mean like my mom sent me to albany

Jessy: not to say what? and idrc if you dont trust me, idrc if we stay friends, just one less person i have to put on my list of people to deal with… i dont really need more than the four or five friends i have

Angie: and ur gonna lose them too if u aint careful

Nancy: Then you need to look for help if you can’t control your temper. Idc who started, idc who wants to fight who. Tati ik you are my cousin but both of you guys GROWN UP!!!!!! Damn, you aren’t little kids. You are teenagers.

Angie: love u too nicki

Jessy: tati just let it go. i am. cuz i dont really care anymore, this is just a fight over i dont eben remember, that i dont even care who wins…

Jessy: so lets just end it

Angie: fine are we friends tho

Nancy: Then stop fighting. Leave this girl alone and girl leave my cousin alone, grow up and stop this. Tati jobs and colleges do go through your Facebook and won’t hire people because of certain things posted.

Angie: idc right now nicki me and her be talking

Nancy: Ok do you not know how to talk now? “Me and her be talking?” Tati if you guys “be” talking then don’t be fighting. There’s no point of it. Its not necessary.

Prissy*: I don’t want to see any more fighting on here

Prissy*: OR ELSE

Angie: or ealse what

Prissy*: jobs will check your facebook, like Nicki said

Nancy: Colleges do to! No matter if your 13 or if you remove the comments. You out something on the internet and it is there FOREVER!

Prissy*: There is no need for this fighting

Prissy*: you can never take it back! pages are cached. (stored)

Prissy*: Good, I hope this is over

* It must be noted that “Prissy” is an adult. Wouldn’t you reasonably expect an adult to have warned parents or teachers of this brewing assault?

Well, readers, it was NOT all over…just a couple of days after this exchange took place on Facebook Jessy was brutally attacked, injured, by another girl at the RCS middle school.

So, what subsurface messages did you read in the exchange between the girls? So what impressed you most? The anger, the aggression, the difference between the girls? Did you catch the anxiety, suspicion of the Internet? How about the language? What does that tell you about where these future parents, women, taxpayers, decision-makers are going to be ten years from now? Where were the parents when all of this was brewing? Where were the teachers and teachers’ aids when the brutality took place?

We may be overly optimistic, but this is what we predict.

We may be overly optimistic, but this is what we predict.

The schools are not “for the kids”, they’re for the teachers!

d-The schools, no matter how advanced your self-deception may be, are not there to parent, and they’re doing a pretty lousy job (judging by the language in the Facebook exchange) of teaching, too! In fact, no matter what lies you are telling yourselves—and believing—the millions ($41.2 for 2013-14) you are shelling out for school budgets are not “for the kids;” those millions are for the teachers, the coaches, the administrators. [Editor’s Note: Voters just approved a $41.2 million school budget for 2013-2014, voted-in three teacher clique lackies James Latter, Jason Hyslop and shyster Patrick Brown (husband of Mary Partridge-Brown, “close friend” of NYSUT (teachers union) rep Matt Miller; voters re-elected a perv, James Latter, to the board. And you think there’s no conspiracy, no corruption going on in the school system?]

Still think there’s no conspiracy, no corruption? Well let’s look at an example from real RCS CSD in-crowd life:  Ron Racey, an RCS CSD athletics staff member is retiring and was making more than $120,000 a year out of the school budget monies…plus benefits! (That’s almost 3x the average household income in the town of Coeymans, by the way!) One man in a non-essential position on the school payroll making 3x more than the average household [Editor’s note: that’s household, not person! The average per capita income in 2010 was $21,686.] Most instructional staff in the RCS CSD are making 2-3x the average household income and 4-6x the average per capita income of RCS residents. Now, do you really think that the schools and the school budgets are “for the kids” or for the teachers and administrators? Think about that again and then think about what kind of morals and ethics the kids have, what their social skills are like, what their outlooks on life are, how they talk, and how they interact. You’ll likely come to the same conclusion we have: The schools are not for the kids, they’re for the teachers!

The village of Ravena budgeted more than $115,000 in the village 2013-14 budget to fund the Ravena Health and Fitness Center…

Bruno-Warren-Deluca Village of Ravena

Bruno-Warner-Deluca
Village of Ravena

We recently reported how the village of Ravena purchased more than $40,000 in used workout machines and equipment from a “friend of the Ravena village board” without public inputs or comment. That’s $40,000 of Ravena taxpayer’s money for junk. In that same article we exposed how the village of Ravena budgeted more than $115,000 in the village 2013-14 budget to fund the Ravena Health and Fitness Center now located in the former space occupied by the RCS Community Library. That’s $115,000 of taxpayer money to fund a Heap and Fatness Center modeled on the same incompetent scheme of the one that failed in Ravena several years ago, when there was actually some businesses left and some residents left in the village. So that’s $115,000 for something that the village does not need at all and will probably be a waste of resources. Well, a waste for some, but it’s a gold mine for others: Mayor John T. Bruno and his hatchet-woman Nancy Biscone-Warner must have owed the Delucas or their godfather for some favor because Guess Who?  got “appointed” to be the director of the Ravena Heap and Fatness Center: Cathy Deluca, the very manager who managed the failed fitness center in Ravena. [Editor’s Note:  Don’t forget this in March for village elections,  when it’s election time and mayor Bruno is running for re-election, and in November, when his minions Martin Case or William Bailey are running for town offices!]

So here’s the breakdown of the kid’s situation in Ravena-Coeymans: You go on Facebook unsupervised and tear each other apart in pseudo-English, threatening to do serious damage to each other (and these are the middle-school girls!). Then you go to school where the administrators are under a state mandated requirement to supervise and oversee students to avoid bullying and to ensure the safety of the kids…and you get the living shite kicked out of you. While all of this is going on the village of Ravena in it’s great wisdom is shelling out more than $115,000 for a Heap and Fatness Center, ignoring the problems in its parks and on the streets, ignoring its young people while padding the palms of its supporters and friends. Just down the street a young woman is being held at knifepoint and sexually abused, and the police stop a drunken father with his teenage daughter in the car (he’s just out of jail, on a suspended license, and under the influence) and allow him to drive on. Voters approve more than $41 million dollars for the RCS CSD school budget, while paying teaching and athletics staff 4-6x the average per capita income of RC residents! And the kids are still being brutalized, still speak English worse than illegal aliens, and are walking the streets or getting raped in the park! Are you really following all of this? WAKE THE HELL UP, PEOPLE!

Three Out of Four: Not Bad At All. Kudos for Coeymans Police Officer

The Fourth and Quite Unexpected Experience in A Week Was with the
Coeymans Police Department

good cop great cop

Actually, this is the third out of four reports from the Ravena-Coeymans community that is POSTIVE. Yes! POSITIVE!

A Pleasant Change of Pace A Story About A Good Apple

A Pleasant Change of Pace
A Story About A Good Apple

Our readers are well aware that we are supportive of eliminating the Coeymans Police Department and placing it under the supervision and control of a highly professional, highly trained, and well-equipped law enforcement entity. We supported and continue to support the proposal of placing the Coeymans Police Department under the supervision and control of the Albany County Sheriff’s Department. We do not advocate, however, taking the decent and professional career law enforcement professions out of our community but we do advocate getting rid of the ethically and morally corrupt or deficient individuals who do not know measures or boundaries. Of the entire Coeymans police force, the bad apples number about two or three individuals who really should not be in law enforcement—anywhere.

Some of you may also recall that last year on May 16, 2012, we published an article to our local law enforcement on how much we appreciate them and that we do know who the good ones are and who the rogues are, and how to tell the difference. If you don’t remember the article you can find it at: For the Sake of Decency and Respect… We still feel the same way and want our good law enforcement officers to know that we appreciate you for the fine men and women you are and for the sacrifices you make for us.

But, again, as we have in the past, we would like to share a very impressive and positive experience we have had with a member of the Coeymans Police Department that gives us hope.

Hope RisingWe experienced a regrettable incident last week and today served the village of Ravena with a Notice of Claim charging the village of Ravena and one of its employees with some serious violations of state and federal laws. No, it’s not surprising, we know. But if you don’t use your rights and defend them, you’ll soon lose them. So we served the village of Ravena with the Notice of Claim telling them that they have some big problems and will have to face the music.

As expected, the village of Ravena was rather dour and as defensive as one could reasonably expect with what goes on in that place. When you have so much to hide you get defensive, as in Ravena’s case.

The second trip today, after having served the village of Ravena with the legal papers was a trip to the Coeymans Police Department, which, to be honest, we dreaded.

On entering we were greeted very nicely by the dispatcher on duty. Courteous, helpful, responsive. First good sign!

We had a deposition to files but the dispatcher couldn’t date-time stamp it into the record for us so we had to go to the Clerk’s office, upstairs. The clerk there was a gem of courtesy, friendliness, and helpfulness. I really started to ask myself if I were in the right place!

The clerk logged the deposition into the record and promised to get it downstairs to the police department. A lovely conversation ensued until I had to excuse myself; I was already late for a haircut appointment.  (Yes. It was local.)

After my appointment I returned to the Coeymans Police Department and the dispatcher was just as friendly as before…Lookin’ good!

When the officer came in to take my complaint I was a bit concerned how it would go, since I’ve received so many complaints and stories about the Coeymans police (usually the stories are about the bad ones, hardly anyone mentions the good ones). So this is a report on a good one, a very good one.

good example good adviceI’d rather not mention names but I will: Officer Jason Alberts. There is nothing better than a police officer who has character, respect for his dialogue partner, and is a listener and not a barking nuisance. Officer Jason Alberts’ conduct—his conduct not his words— persuaded me that it is time to give credit where the credit is due: to the good apples on the Coeymans law enforcement team. It goes far beyond that, though, and means that the men and women who provide best positive image maker the Coeymans Police Department and the community need to become more visible and need to be recognized by us, the citizens and residents whom they serve. can hope to have. There are others, P. McKenna, for example, who do their job but do it respecting the dignity of the people they are serving.

The purpose of this blog has never been to beat anyone up but to get people to think. When we do mention names we hope that the names will stop for a minute and ask themselves the important question, “Why am I making that impression on the blogger?” “What am I doing to make him see me that way?” and “I may need to change my act if that’s how anyone perceives me!” But some people just never get it. You can rub their noses in it but it still smells like roses to them. They never see beyond the words to read the message. Too bad!

We ask nothing more of our law enforcement personnel but to be fair, have integrity, be respectful, and realize that everyone has personal dignity.  If our law enforcement personnel achieve those objectives then, when they are doing their jobs, the jobs we pay them to do and the jobs we expect them to do, when we do get caught, it’s not the law officer’s fault, it’s our own fault. Self-awareness and a sense of fairness will help us to put the blame in the right place.

Just Take Responsibility

Just Take Responsibility

So, we’d like to ask our readers to share with us their good experiences with our law enforcement men and women. We’ll publish the good as happily as we publish the bad but we need to hear from YOU!

In the meantime…

Thank You!Officer Jason Albert A Grateful Citizen

We’d like first of all to turn our attention to the RCS Teen Center, a project started about 6 months ago by local Ravena resident Michael Fisher.

Back in about January, when we first heard about the opening of a teen center in Ravena, our first reaction was pure scepticism, and rightly so. What with the goings on in Ravena-Coeymans and its history what else could we possibly think but yet another Coeymanazi scheme to fleece the community, benefit the friends and relatives of those in town and village hall, and yet another failure.

Well, dear readers, we are pleased to admit we were terribly wrong!

We stated our skepticism and the reasons why we urged caution. We also corresponded with the founder, Mr Michael Fisher, whom we found to be genuine and sincere. We shut up and gave him a chance to survive and to succeed without our harranguing and interfering. We felt that if he failed we would be right but if he succeeded we would be there to thank him. He has succeeded so far!

Well, dear readers, we are pleased to admit we were terribly wrong! And we’d like to take this opportunity to congratulate Mr Fisher for his guts, perserverence, and incredible sacrifice and generosity in making this important and valuable gift to our teens.

This turnaround is not simply based on surface observations but on reliable sources, teens and their parents. Not the parents who are dumping their teens on the Teen Center to have personal time for themselves but parents who really parent. It’s from those reliable and credible sources that we’ve heard such good things about the RCS Teen Center and Mr Fisher’s fine work.

We’d like to Commend Mr Michael Fisher, his Team of Volunteers, and the RCS Teen Center

And it’s not all fun and games, entertainment and dancing. It’s about guidance and good discipline because Mr Fisher encourages responsible behavior and is not one to deal lightly with misconduct. According to reliable reports he not only imposes discipline such as banning from the Center because of misconduct at the center but does not tolerate misconduct outside of the center, either. One anecdote shared with us is how a teen acted out and did some damage. The parent stepped up and paid for the damage. Mr Fisher banned the teen for a time but when the teen misbehaved vis-a-vis the parent, Fisher tacked another couple of weeks onto the penalty. Way to go, Mike!

So, we’d like to commend Mr Michael Fisher, his team of volunteers, and the RCS Teen Center for a terrific job and send a special Thank you! to a man and community-spirited citizen who has invested heavily from his personal savings to make an important gift to our teens and to our Community!

When People Misbehave in Public and are Disorderly, They Dampen the Pubic’s Enthusiasm to Exercise Free Speech and Expression Guaranteed by the Constitution of the United States. In Other Words, the Disorderly Individuals Interfere with Your Constitutional Rights!

This has been an age-old tactic by terrorists and antisocial groups: send in a bunch of thugs to disrupt the meeting, scare people or make them nervous, and the people will be hesitant to speak out or to meet. The Bolsheviks did it. The Communist Chinese did it. The Stalinist Russians did it. The KuKlux Clan did it. The Nazis did it. It worked for them and our own thugs think it will work, too. It’s up to the rest of us to put the thugs in their place and to show them that thug tactics don’t work in this community. Get it Matt Miller, Jerry Deluca, Fiends of RCS, Sarah Engel (a teacher whose teacher husband is Howard “Bray” Engel of the RCS teachers clique on the BoE, and her mass-e-mail campaign as Fiends of RCS), and any others who think that they are better than the rest of us.

I’d like to start with some comments made on local groups’ Facebook pages this week. The comments were posted in response to a local figure’s post about misbehavior by adults at the May 14, 2013, RCS board of education meeting.

Apart from some absolutely stupid comments made on several of the RCS Facebook pages by a character who likes to dress up in a fireman’s outfit and who also likes to read the Coeymanazi manifesto and recite its parts on Facebook (Yes! I’m talking about YOU, Mr Craig Wickham!), some of the comments I’ve recently read about misconduct by attendees at board of education meetings tend to reflect a sofening of attitudes. Does this mean the community is becoming more civil? Let’s hope so but let’s look at those comments first.

John Rousseau: Why? Because a large number of the voting public…rely on what is being broadcast and published in emails, webpages, and blogs as “truthful”. Its sad that many rely on these opinions as fact, which is why I’ve been checking some these opinions…I don’t think I need to remind anyone of the hateful public rhetoric surrounding Jews prior to WWII.. both in Europe and in America. Brandeis [Louis Brandeis, US Supreme Court Justice] was at the forefront of many decisions regarding free speech, exercising it, and its limitations:
“If there be time to expose through discussion the falsehood and fallacies, to avert the evil by the processes of education, the remedy to be applied is more speech, not enforced silence.”

Thank you Mr Rousseau, for that very supportive comment. While justice Brandeis did support some very questionable rulings, his position on free speech and expression is scriptural. That’s the principal we live by on this blog and, Mr Rousseau, once again, Thank you! for your express support and that very supportive statement.

Rob Thomas:  John, you are entitled to your opinion as we all are. I would never deny that of anyone. I am more concerned with the manner in which someone voices their opinion…and I need to say that good manners and civility are slowly eroding in our community. People would be surprised how one may listen to you and be acceptable of one’s point of view if only respect was present.

Very true, Mr Thomas. We are entitled to our opinions and, as Mr Rousseau points out, it is certainly worthwhile to check the facts to arrive at the truth. That, too, is what we do on this blog. The question we all need to ask ourselves is “Why?” as you state, “good manners and civility are slowly eroding in our community.” This may have a lot to do with how children and young adults perceive the models that community adults provide. I provide some examples below of some egregious [=disgraceful] behavor of some local adults, and ask readers to decide: How does that affect our young people? Even ask yourself, How does that sort of behavior affect YOU, an adult?

The very thread started by the comment on the impression Ms Suni Martinez Swann made at a recent BoE meeting, and the outrageous outbursts of Mr Matt Miller, teachers union representative and teacher at the RCS high-school, and Mr Gerald Deluca, an employee of the Coeymans police department, is an example of the answer to your question. Ms Swann is an outspoken contributor to several local groups, and her conduct may simply have been a momentary loss of control. Matt Miller’s and Gerald Deluca’s conduct is simply habitual but  unacceptable, even if we do agree on free expression, in or out of an official scenario. Miller and Deluca are public figures and must be held to a higher standard than the Suni Martinez Swans’s among us.

We also need to realize that when someone is sure of her or his position, s/he does not have to engage in rudeness, uncivility, outburst, etc. When a person is secure and sure about her or his opinion or position, s/he can sit quietly, respectfully,  and assuredly; when a person doesn’t believe in her or his position or does not feel it’s convincing or persuasive, then they resort to rude attack, loudness, outburst, aggression, even violence.  So what does that tell us about Miller’s and Deluca’s behavior and conduct?

John Rousseau. First… recall that this was a rule proposed by Mr Vadney and agreed upon by the BOE in order to keep their meetings brief, and not running into the wee hours. Everyone needs to remember that it is the BOE’s meeting, and the public is granted access **only** to observe. The privilege of public comment at the meeting is granted by the BOE…Good luck with that. (RCS Friends and More)

John Rousseau: Disagreeing with the opinion is one thing…trying to limit the expression of those opinons, and where and how it is voiced is not just wrong… its against civil law. (Save the Arts at RCS)

Thank you again, Mr Rousseau. Again, you are on target. As I mentioned above, people tend naturally to be intimidated when exposed to aggression or outbursts. It’s an abusive tactic used by persons and groups who don’t fully believe in the strength or persuasiveness of their positions. When truth, fact and logic fail them, they turn to aggression or violence. Mr Matt Miller and Mr Gerald Deluca are good examples of this observation right here in this community. Other examples are given below.

Rob Thomas: John, you are entitled to your opinion as we all are. I would never deny that of anyone. I am more concerned with the manner in which someone voices their opinion. I, too, am a senior and I need to say that good manners and civility are slowly eroding in our community. People would be surprised how one may listen to you and be acceptable of one’s point of view if only respect was present. (Save the Arts at RCS)

We’d like now to move on to an illustration of how we behave may be perceived differently than we intended. Several communications seem to support that fact: That when we act or react in public, the public may perceive the behavior differently. Ms Swann insists that she is a “lady” but the comments seem to reflect a different impression. [Editor’s Note: This is in no way whatsoever representing the opinion that Ms Martinez Swann is not a “lady,” however she may define that term, but that her behavior was perceived to be inappropriate and rude, uncivil.]

Suni Martinez Swann: Donna, ladies don’t yell. I am a lady. I was asking my RCS Board President when the three minutes were up….:) (RCS Friends and More)

A word of advice: It’s all in the eye of the beholder whether you’re a lady or not. Self-assessments don’t count here. Perhaps in future you should let the board do what it’s there to do, make the rule that ensure its orderly function. And stop looking for reasons to be negative. Moreover, perhaps you should reassess how you behave in public and the impression you make. You seem to feel you behaved like a “lady.” Apparently a number of people who observed your “ladylike” behavior had a different impression.

Suni Martinez Swann: …EVERYONE!…I agree rudeness is inappropriate. When I first looked at Mr. Vadney, I asked with a questionable look & with 3 fingers held if time was up. I did not expect Ms. Vadney to respond as she did, which prompted me to ask verbally “Is it 3 minutes?” …I respect the work ethic of both Mr. and Mrs. Dawn Vadney extremely well. This couple worked tirelessly alongside my husband and I with a volunteer effort that helped those in need after a natural disaster. And we appreciated it very much. I am not on a “side” nor for an “interest”. I am for my child(ren) and seeing that those who serve, on the board (whoever it may be), align with my philosophy of education, ethics, and morals. (RCS Friends and More)

Well, thank you Ms Martinez-Swann, for your comment, which is very supportive of our principles, and also of Mr Vadney and his dedication to this community. But we are concerned by some of the contradictions in your statements.

Whether or not you expected a reaction or not, don’t you think you were out-of-line or overstepping your role as a spectator. (Please see Mr Rousseau’s comment, above.) Mr Vadney was quite correct in advising you that “We have a timekeeper over here.“” The timekeeper was not Mr Vadney, by the way. You were, in fact, asked not to “interrupt.” Interrupting only delays the speaker’s finishing. It’s rude and unfair, too. In fact, Mr Vadney later twice advised the speaker that her time was up and she should finish. That sounds to me (1) like the board had the situation under control, and (2) you were out of line. If you disagree, we would welcome your comments.

Your statement that you want to ensure “that those who serve, on the board (whoever it may be), align with my philosophy of education, ethics, and morals,” is a contradiction of the statement you made immediately before, “I am not on a “side” nor for an “interest.” Furthermore, you make the impression that you are arrogant and close-minded when you want a group elected by the greater community to “align with your philosopy of education, ethics, and morals.” If that isn’t one-sided or representing a one-sided interest, I don’t know what is! Again, Ms Martinez-Swann, you live in a community and, like it or not, you need to be consciously aware of the impressions you make.

This Community Has To Decide Who’s Running Things

“The most important political office is that of the private citizen.”
(Louis Dembitz Brandeis, Associate Justice, U.S.S.C.)

Taking effective charge starts with self-awareness, with admission of the bad as well as the good, of recognizing when we are in denial and deceiving ourselves. It starts with our recognizing which version of the facts we are going to accept as true and how our own agendas and, as Suni Martinez-Swann writes, whether we are going to expect the entire community to align with our own “philosopy of education, ethics, and morals;” in other words, shortsightedness, one-sidedness, bullyism.

  1. When we give a gift, we have to let go of it and turn it over to the recipient, don’t we? Same is true when by our vote we turn over some of our authority and power to the successful candidate, whether we have voted for her or him or not. That’s democracy, people.
  2. The comments we’ve examined above mean that we need to do a couple of things here:
  3. Behave ourselves, act with respect, be civil.
  4. Listen more and talk less. God gave us two ears and one mouth for a very good reason.
  5. Be very aware of how we are perceived in public, and conduct ourselves to make the most positive impression, especially on young persons.
  6. Let go and let our elected officials do what we entrusted them to do!
  7. Don’t just talk, make sense. Just saying something is wrong is not enough, you must be able to defend your position and, in matters that affect the community, it’s not your good but the common good that guides the discussion. If you want a community, you must accept the rules of living in community.
  8. We, you and I, are responsible for this community and how it runs or doesn’t. We have to live here, do business here, raise our chldren here. Not the Albany Times Union!animation burning question

So the Burning Question Is: Who Has Gotten the Albany Times Union to Publish More Garbage on this Community. Who In This Community Is Feeding Them The Junk That the Albany Times Union is AGAIN Printing About Our Community.

We really want to know and you should really want to know who’s getting the Albany Times Union to again focus their vile attention on our community. Once you identify who’s feeding that useless rag, take her or him out and lynch’em! Tar and feathers is too good for them!

Can you imagine the gall, the arrogance, the utter scandal that the Albany Times Union should publish something like, “RCS You can do Better” (Times Union, May 17, 2013, click this link to read the Absolute Insult to the RCS community!) You may not think the community is broken or that the board of education is broken. You may not agree on all or even any of the issues. But YOU and only YOU, RCS residents, taxpayers, should openly and loudly punish any of the media who makes a statement like: “Three members of a travesty of a school board are up for re-election on Tuesday.” How dare anyone in this community feed the Times Useless. What’s even worse still—but not likely—is that the Times Useless would print something like that scandalous, insulting “opinion.” on its own.

We’ve Said It Before and We’ll Repeat It Again: BOYCOTT the Albany Times Useless!

Find Out Who’s Getting the Times Union to Print Shite Like That and SHUN That or Those Individuals!

One thing is certain: Whoever is getting the Albany Times Useless to print stuff like that is CERTAINLY NOT THE ONES BEING TORN APART IN THE ARTICLE. So how many choices does that leave you for deciding who’s feeding the snake a.k.a. Albany Times Union?

Anyone feeding the Albany Times Useless should be publicly stripped naked and tarred and feathered! Anyone feeding the Albany Times Useless by contributing negative comments should be publicly stripped naked and tarred and feathered, as a traitor to this community and for undermining the good faith efforts of this community to flourish. Anyone who stands silent while the Albany Times Useless prints this insulting, scandalous garbage is an accessory to the insult and should be SHUNNED by the community!

AND YOU SHOULD BE, TOO!

AND YOU SHOULD BE, TOO!

So Think About This and Decide for Yourself What You’re Going to Do…In 2012 when the teachers clique and the Deluca thugs, now known as Friends of RCS, couldn’t get the votes, and didn’t get them in 2012, even though they resorted to some pretty underhanded tactics to sway the public, and violated not just a couple policies and laws while they were at it, they then tried to recover the majority on the RCS Board of Education by even more devious means. Here are just a couple of examples, let’s see if you can remember them:

  • They tried to slander sitting board member Rodney Krzykowski into resigning. When that failed they started feeding the Albany Times Useless with scurrilous information, trying to defame Mr Krzykowsi and scandalizing the RCS district and the board of education. They failed.
  • When sitting board member Jeff Lukens’ son got into some trouble and Mr Lukens stood by his son, they dragged Mr Lukens through the dirt. What’s a father to do when his son gets into trouble? Take him out back and shoot him? They failed.
  • They then tried to frame sitting board president John Vadney. But a number of witnesses came forward and Mr Vadney called their bluff. They failed.
  • Then certain teachers (Matt Miller)  incited students in the high school and board president John Vadney’s son was ambushed by several young hoodlums when he was entering the school. It was all caught on tape. The administration under that useless union lackey Elizabeth Smith dragged their feet and tried to sweep the incident under the carpet. That was until Mrs Vadney showed them she meant business and filed a Notice of Claim telling them either do something or else. (By the way, no lawsuit was ever filed, contrary to what the Coeymanazis in Fiends of RCS might be circulating.) What would you have done if your kid was attacked and injured and no one seemed to give a shite? Blow it off, maybe? Again, they failed!
  • Then they came out in force when the board went forward to hire a professional superintendent, Dr Alan R. McCartney. They had everything to say about that and most of it was lies. McCartney was hired and has been doing a stellar job. Matt Miller, Jerry Deluca, Fiends of RCS, Coeymanazis failed yet again!

That’s Sure Proof that Friends of RCS have NO VALUES! They’re IMMORAL and UNETHICAL!

Then there’s the 2013-14 budget. Fiends of RCS, Matt Miller, Jerry Deluca all came out in force with doom and gloom predictions of services and programs getting cut, no money left, job losses, etc. None of it true. The Vadney, Sylvester, Robbins, Krzykowski, Lukens team approved the budget with their majority; the teachers clique wanted a higher levy (at least 3.58%) and lost (AGAIN). In the process Dr McCartney and the Vadney majority not only kept most programs but even added some! So where are all of these lies coming from, we’d like to know. And why?

This just in: A local resident attempted to post a comment on the Friends of RCS Facebook site and got this response:

Beth Sullivan Pike: Our page is supporting 3 candidates. If you do not want to support them, you can comment elsewhere. Thank you!

Fiends of RCS: The Friends of RCS have chosen to support three fine candidates: James Latter, Jason Hyslop and Pat Brown. We know not everyone will agree with our choices. It is up to you to make your choices on election day, May 21st. BUT, please take your comments for the other candidates to other Facebook pages that are supporting your candidates. We will not tolerate negative comments against our candidates. Thank you!

No that’s real Naxi of you, Fiends! Friends of RCS is the group that is supporting the Latter-Hyslop-Brown mutant. It’s also the group that claims to “love discussion and dialogue,” but only their kind of discussion and dialogue. Isn’t that an embarrassment to this community, to our democratic principles? Thank You! Beth Sullivan Pike for making our point for us!

I know. They know. And you already know. So why fool ourselves? They’re the same thugs who are backing the Latter-Hyslop-Brown mutant.

Latter-Hyslop-BrownThree Heads, One Snake

Latter-Hyslop-Brown
Three Heads, One Snake

Here are some more questions that might open your eyes a bit wider to the truth:

Let me ask you when ever have you seen any of the resident-business people standing on chairs and shouting at a board of education meeting? You probably can’t think of a single instance because it never happens. But what about the Fiends of RCS? The Coeymanazis? The most recent instance was at the May 14th board of education meeting when Suni Martinez Schwan was shouting at the board and at a speaker at the podium. Then Matt Miller and Jerry Deluca had an outburst and were evicted from the meeting by Dr McCartney. Well, that happens to be the way they are: animals.

When have you ever heard Mr Vadney, Ms Sylvester, Mr Robbins, Mr Lukens, or Mr Krzykowski ever address another board member disrespectfully or demeaningly. I’ve never seen or heard that happen and I review all of the videos of the meetings. Can we say the same thing about Alice Whalen, Howard Engel, James Latter, Jerry Deluca? NO!  As a matter of fact, that’s the way they are: animals. Note that I didn’t include Edward “Teddy” Reville because he’s so comatose at most meetings you’d doubt he was alive. How’d he get on the board, anyway?

And what about the Deluca thugs? Now that’s a bunch of savages (I won’t even call them animals, it would offend the animals). Their motto is: “If You Don’t Have Facts Make Some Up!” Enough said.

And then the residents-in-denial like Denise Carl Hughes (her husband, Scott Hughes, jumped ship when he was prez of the RCS BoE and the going got rough. Now she’s a big deal? She’s a vicious biatch, nothing more.  History, people, remember the HISTORY!) and Eileen Vosburgh and their minions don’t think this community is broken, dysfunctional. Well it is, girls, admit it. And it’s people like you who make it broken and dysfunctional. Admit it.

So, ladies and gentlemen, if you really want to put respect and integrity on the RCS board of education you won’t do it by re-electing James Latter or electing Jason Hyslop or Patrick Brown.

The signs tell it all. Latter, Hyslop and Brown are not independent, they are part of a like minded group and they’re telling you that by joining together even on their signs. The teachers clique and the Coeymanazis own Latter, Hyslop, and Brown. They are owned by the special interests. They’re tools.

You won’t find Vadney or Sylvester or Polyak listed together. Why? Because they don’t belong to anyone but the community who elects them. They are independent and aren’t owned by anyone. They think on their feet and don’t take orders from unions, special interests or godfathers.

So, dear readers, I ask you: Given this information and your God-given intelligence can you make the right choice?

Keep in mind that it’s not the people being torn apart by the Albany Times Useless who are the ones scandalizing and insulting the RCS district and community. And it’s not the people being torn apart by the Albany Times Useless who are feeding the misinformation and lies to the Albany Times Useless who are scandalizing and insulting the RCS district and community. And it’s not the people being torn apart by the Albany Times Useless that are breaking this RCS district and community (while denying the very results of their unscrupulous and criminal behavior). We know who it is: The very ones opposing Dr Alan R. McCarney and the good work of Mr John Vadney, Ms Judy Sylvester, the promise represented by Mr Laszlo Polyak, and the resident-business team on the RCS BoE. Yes! We know who you are! And you’re scared shiteless, aren’t you?

Some monkeys are on top, some down below.
The monkeys on top look down and see a tree full of smiling faces.

Think about that and decide if you want to be on top or stay on the bottom branch.
