Save Coeymans from the Comeback Team!

“The Only Thing Necessary for the Triumph of Evil is that Good People Do Nothing!”

Edmund Burke/John F. Kennedy

This just in (November 4, 2019): Jeff LaQuire has been identified as Jay Faith, a fake profile he has been using to post on various Facebook pages! Just another example of the dishonesty and sleaziness of the Comeback Team and their supporters, the Friends of Coeymans a.k.a. Coeymans Clowns, a.k.a. Fiends of Coeymans! Something about Jeff LaQuire…maybe it’s the ‘quire” part…but his fake profile features a woman with two children. We find that a bit odd for a man to be posing as a woman. But then, it’s the FOC and they’re supporting the Comeback Team…It’s just so unnatural.

mchugh liar disgrace

George McHugh – Liar and Evil Puppetmaster
Any man who associates lies with a national tragedy and the uniform is a disgrace!

The Comeback Team is Evil. They will triumph if good people sit back and do nothing.

lost in mchugh fog

Collins & Lefevre: Perhaps not entirely evil…YET
No experience, no independence, McHugh’s puppets.

As can be expected, the Ravena News Herald wasted good deal of ink repeating George McHugh’s weasel-words in an 11th hour effort to distract from his scandalous lies. They’re still offering him air-time to backpedal and save himself. How many more lies can he manage to tell be for the polls open. Let’s start counting, shall we? He’s still as devious and dishonest as ever. It’s just that his previous lies were discovered and made public that he’s now softened them at the last minute. Smalbany published two articles on the Interview that wasn’t, the interview, which, had McHugh had the courage and integrity to accept, would have forced him to admit his lies. Period. The image adorning those articles is one of a pig wallowing in mud and cites Proverbs and 2 Peter 2, scriptural passages, that refer to the fool’s folly, in other words, the fool never changes. McHugh is what McHugh is and McHugh does what McHugh has always done: taken very good care of McHugh at the expense of everyone else. 4 wives and how many other women has he used. He’s going to use, abuse, and then leave Coeymans as soon as he’s gotten what he’s after. Mark these words.

He’s got plenty of weasel-words to weasel around his ethics violations. Yeah, the check is in the mail, Georgie. All we have to say is that so many charges of ethics violations just don’t drop out the sky like snowflakes. Where there’s smoke, Georgie, there’s reason to believe there’s fire. Don’t treat this community and its voters like fools. We’re not…well at least some of us still have our marbles, no thanks to George McHugh!

Liar, liar! Your tail’s on fire, Georgie!

Get out and VOTE!

Comeback Team and More Misinformation about the Clean Air Law

Smalbany’s Summary of why George McHugh and his Comeback Losers would be really bad news for Coeymans will be posted on Sunday, November 3, 2019.  Stay tuned!

Aren’t You Getting Just a Little Bit Tired of the Comeback Losers Team Trying to Feed you More Misinformation, Disinformation, Malinformation, and Lies?

What’s the Comeback Team’s Point? Is there a real Intent to Harm?

Why Can’t the Comeback Losers Just Tell the Truth?

Because they’re pathological liars!
It’s gotten to the point that they are so desperate, you can’t believe anything they put out there.

Clean air, clean soil, clean water.

The most recent lies are in their campaign card received in the mail on Wednesday, in which they make the following false statements:

FIRST LIE on the Card at No. 1: The Coeymans Comeback Team has no plans to repeal the so-called Clean Air Law (CAL), which incidentally, allows for industries to burn up to 25 tons of tires a day.

This is nothing less than intentional disinformation and malinformation tantamount to an outright lie, intended to deceive and, confuse and mislead voters! The complete text of the Clean Air Law can be read at Clean Air.

We’ve carefully read the text of the law and can definitely say that what the Comeback Losers say on their campaign card is a lie.

The word-for-word “Intent” of the Clean Air Law is stated in the Law as:

It is the intent of this chapter to promote and protect the public health and welfare of the residents of the Town of Coeymans by regulating burning or related processing of wastes, and prohibiting the same on a large scale. [Smalbany Editor’s emphasis. Note the explicit distinction between “burning” and “processing”, that is, not “burning.”]

We also read in the “Definitions” (§ 80-4Definitions. section of the Law, what the Law defines as waste, and at the bottom it defines “tires” as

As used in this chapter, the following terms shall have the meanings indicated:

WASTEAny of the following, or combination of the following: … waste tires as defined by New York Environmental Conservation Law § 27-1901(13)… Any material that falls under this definition shall not be considered fuel. [Smalbany Editor’s emphasis]

The important phrase that you should not misread is “any material that falls under this definition shall not be considered fuel,” because that’s what LaFarge Holcim was calling the tires and Connecticut garbage: “fuel”!

The Law defines a waste facility as:

WASTE DISPOSAL FACILITY
Any facility which disposes of waste or uses waste to produce energy…[A] waste disposal facility does not include systems used exclusively for on-site space heating purposes at a residential home. [Smalbany Editor’s emphasis]

In other words, we have to read “uses waste to produce energy” as another way to say “fuel.”

Here’s the paragraph that the Comeback Losers are using to mislead their readers:

80-5 Prohibition. It is hereby prohibited for a waste disposal facility to process more than 25 tons of waste in any twenty-four-hour period. [Smalbany Editor’s emphasis. No mention of “burn” in this section. Process, as noted above, is other than “burning.”]

This section is actually called “Prohibition,” meaning that it forbids even the processing of a specific amount of waste! NOT as the Comeback Losers write, “allows” up to 25 tons. There’s a big difference! The Comeback Losers should sign up for some remedial reading comprehension lessons. But wait a minute, don’t they have a corrupt and crooked lawyer on their Comeback Team? George McHugh? Wouldn’t he be able to read the Clean Air Law and understand what it really says? Now Why? would George McHugh want to change his skin and start telling the truth?

Without reproducing the entire text, we need to emphasize the very strict monitoring requirements of the Clean Air Law:

Continuous emissions monitoring systems (“CEMS”) equipment shall be used to monitor, measure and disclose the smokestack emission of the following pollutants [Smalbany Editor’s emphasis. An extensive list of pollutants follows.]

A waste disposal facility shall disclose all data provided by CEMS required under this section in real time on a public website. Data shall also be provided in summary form…[D]ata shall be maintained until six months after the waste disposal facility closes or changes its activities such that it no longer qualifies as a waste disposal facility

A waste disposal facility with any air emissions point source shall not process more than one ton of waste in any twenty-four-hour period without complying with the clean air standards in this section.

Waste disposal facilities must meet the following pollution limits where they are more stringent than corresponding limits in an air permit issued by a state or federal environmental agency:

In other words, any emissions must be monitored, measured, and disclosed continuously. The emissions must be disclosed to the public in real time and in summary form on a public access website. No waste can be processed without complying with the CAL standards. The more stringent pollution limits must be met even if state or federal regulations allow for other limits.

The Comeback Losers do say that they don’t want to repeal the CAL but what they don’t say is that they don’t want to change the CAL to suit their scheming. The will attempt to change the CAL so that it is more favorable to the interests of LaFarge Holcim and others.

Finally, we contacted the Town of Coeymans, and received the following statement from a Town Board member:

The Clean Air Law is first and foremost emissions-based. It sets, perhaps, the strictest emissions standards in the US. You can burn tires if you meet the strict emissions standards; but in no instance can you burn more than 25 tons/day.

LaFarge, for example, said they would need to burn 100-150 tons/day in order to make it economically feasible. They still, by their own admission, would not be able to meet the emission standards.

LaFarge, or any other industry, would still need DEC approval to burn any tires in Coeymans for any standards that the town law is silent on.

If they are suggesting that we should ban burning all tires regardless of the compliance to the emissions standards, the Town of Coeymans will be happy to work on that with them.

That statement should put the matter to rest.

SECOND LIE on the Card at No. 2: The Clean Air law was passed despite previous state tests showing our air was clean, with information about the clean air kept from the pubic.

That statement is not true. First, the air quality for the region is public information, and anyone can access it. Second, we have been informed that local environmental organizations had the information and made it available to the public on a variety of sites. The information was available if anyone made the least effort to find it.

But the actual question we should be asking is this: Regardless of whether the air quality was good or even outstanding, LaFarge Holcim and McHugh wanted to being in tires and garbage to be burnt as “fuel” at the Ravena-Coeymans plant, just across from the middle school and high school. The purpose of the Clean Air Law was to keep the air in Coeymans clean. The very wording of the “Intent” of the CAL reads: “to promote and protect the public health and welfare of the residents of the Town of Coeymans.” The CAL prohibits the burning of tires and garbage as “fuel,” aims to keep the air clean, makes no claim whatsoever that the air in Coeymans is contaminated, substandard, or poor, and imposes strict emissions standards for monitoring, measuring and reporting to the public.

The Truth Is: Why would anyone want to keep information about good air quality from the public, anyway. It doesn’t make sense! What does make sense is that Supervisor Crandall and his Board wanted to ensure that the air breathed by Coeymans residents stayed clean, despite LaFarge Holcim and George McHugh.

THIRD INTENTIONAL DISINFORMATION / MALINFORMATION or LIE, on the Card at No. 4: Not one dime of the Coeymans Comeback Team’s campaign has bee funded by Lafarge Holcim and/or Carver Companies.

OK. Let’s assume for just one moment that the Coeymans Losers are being truthful, just for a change. Let them disclose where all the money is coming from for all of this incredible spending going into a local election campaign! Just make some financial disclosure, like we ask any other candidates for public office to do. We’d like to see your campaign contributors, the amounts they contributed, how the money was spent, on what, by whom, and where. It’s that simple. The Comeback Losers are spending huge amounts of money on this local campaign. WHERE’S THE MONEY COMING FROM AND WHERE’S IT GOING?

If the Comeback Team Losers are so business oriented and business-friendly, they won’t be spending those campaign dollars for nothing. No businessman spends money without expecting to make more by his investment. Do George McHugh, Zach Collins, and Brendan Lefevre expect us to believe that their business plan is to lose money or operate at a loss? Is that the business plan you want for Coeymans? Or are they concealing something?

FOURTH INTENTIONAL DISINFORMATION / MALINFORMATION, on the Card at No. 4: The Crandall administration has been involved in too many ethical conflicts, including his forced resignation as judge for numerous improprieties, and removal from the Conservative line in 2017 for fraudulently witnessing petitions.

This angle is getting old really fast. First of all, Smalbany grilled Mr Crandall for two hours but didn’t ask anything about Mr Crandall’s resignation from the position of town justice. Why? It just wasn’t relevant, it was old news, it just wasn’t important.

To Mr Crandall’s credit, though, even without being asked, he brought the subject up. He speaks very openly about what went on and why he resigned. Mr Crandall brought it up in the context of George McHugh’s record of ethical violations. Smalbany’s question was: Why would George McHugh be bad for Coeymans? Mr Crandall’s response can be read in the transcript of Segment 2 of the Crandall Interview. It’s there in black and white for everyone to read (Transcript, Segment 2, page 4, lines 12-22; page 5, lines 1-24; page 6, lines 1-6).

The Truth is: Mr Crandall has served the Town of Coeymans as the voter’s choice for two (2) consecutive terms, a total of four (4) years, during which he has turned the Town’s finances around and has done miracles putting the Town in good if not excellent fiscal health.

Mr Crandall has done this while making vast improvements in Town of Coeymans infrastructure, repaving road, installing sidewalks, improving parks, and all this while making reasonable concessions to businesses, while establishing fairness in taxation and overall government.

As for a court dumping a candidate’s petition and its signatures, this is common, and occurs for the most ridiculous reasons. Anyone seriously in politics doesn’t even give such a charge a second thought. Just recently a Greene County candidate’s Independence Party petition was disallowed because of an idiotic technicality: the candidate’s opponent claimed that the petition was not properly bound. The court had to interpret NYS election law and had to throw the petition and the signatures out. The candidate is doing remarkably well, though, because Greene County Voters saw through the ruse and the treachery, and his opponent has been sliding downhill fast.

That’s a lesson George McHugh, Zach Collins, and Brendan Lefevre should have learned earlier. Tell the truth and stop being liars and weasel-dealers speaking weasel-words. Your lies, disinformation, misinformation, and malinformation have caught up with you and you’re in a bad way now. It’s your own fault, boys. Deal with it.

George McHugh: Wallowing Sows and Vomiting Dogs – Part I

Smalbany’s Summary of why George McHugh and his Comeback Losers would be really bad news for Coeymans will be posted on Sunday, November 3, 2019.  Stay tuned!

It’s Sunday so let’s talk Holy Scripture:
“As a dog returns to his vomit, so a fool repeats his folly”
(Proverbs 26:11 / 2 Peter 2:22)

How Proverbs and 2 Peter apply to George McHugh.

2 Peter 2:22 concludes Peter’s teaching about those who had gone astray and fallen in the gutter by their deceits. He has in mind those who had come into contact with the community of the righteous, only to return to the sinfulness of the hypocrites and the world.  Similarly, those kind of men are like a pig who can be scrubbed clean, but soon returns to wallow in the muck again. In other words, these men never truly changed in their nature or their character. Dogs and pigs do what dogs and pigs do; there’s no changing them. Men like that show that they never changed, and it stands to reason that they are still exactly what they used to be. The verse describes George McHugh perfectly.

At this point, we believe that when George McHugh started his campaign, he thought it would be Coeymans-as-usual. Just go out there, tell them what they want to hear, trash your opponents, tell some lies, make some promises you’ll never keep, and they’ll repay you with their vote. Not this time, boys.

We don’t think that McHugh had a clue about how his campaign would draw such attention. He never planned on the inquiries, the investigation, the uncovering of so many unsavory and off-putting examples of his dishonesty, unethical conduct and professional ethics violations, his deceitfulness, and his disdain for transparency and answering the public’s questions. His arrogance is particularly troubling.

Sorry, Georgie, did we surprise you?

McHugh never expected the analysis and the scrutiny that his background and his conduct would elicit. But here it is, Georgie Boy.

That’s why we chose those Bible verses especially for you; the have particularly special meaning that applies beautifully to you, George McHugh.

Back in September, we invited both candidates for Coeymans Town Supervisor, incumbent Phil Crandall and challenger George McHugh, to be interviewed by an impartial, non-partisan, interviewer, in the presence of an observer for the interviewee and a community observer. Smalbany provided both candidates with a set of Proposed Interview Questions, so that the interviewees would have the opportunity to do their preparation and provide the best-possible answers. Smalbany’s interviewer would be expected to ask the set questions but also had the discretion to ask additional questions.

The current Coeymans Town Supervisor, Mr. Phillip Crandall, responded almost immediately to our invitation with a confirmation that he would be willing to be interviewed, and left it up to Smalbany to suggest [a] possible date[s]. Mr. Crandall was interviewed on October 16, 2019, for more than two hours. Smalbany published selected excerpts from the Crandall Interview in three Segments, and provided the full transcripts for readers to view or download.

We are providing the links below to those excerpts, where you will also find links to the complete transcripts of the interview.

George D. McHugh, candidate opposing Mr. Crandall, is running alongside Zach Collins and Brendan Lefevre, both running for seats on the Coeymans Town Board, and George Langdon, a former Coeymans Town Board member, now running for a seat on the County Legislature. The closest classical saying we can come up with is from Benjamin Franklin:

This one’s for Zach Collins and Brendan Lefevre.

Smalbany contacted George McHugh at the same time that we contacted Mr. Crandall. Mr. Crandall responded almost immediately; McHugh refused to respond. Smalbany contacted McHugh in two follow-ups but McHugh continued to refuse to respond.

McHugh refused to answer questions.

McHugh followed the same pattern when it came to the proposed debates between Mr. Crandall and McHugh: three opportunities and McHugh refused all three.

This raises important questions for the Coeymans community: First: If McHugh won’t respond to questions now, what can you expect if somehow he gets elected? Second: What is he hiding?

There is a legal maxim that goes like this
“”Silence is admission of guilt when when the accused ought to have spoken and was able to.”
Mr. McHugh, being an attorney, must have applied that maxim many times; now we apply it to him.

We’ll start with the actual questions we sent to George McHugh with all three of our invitations to interview. We’ll then move on to questions that have been raised in the course of our research, questions that point to very serious character and professional defects in George McHugh that make him unfit for public office, and may even subject him to professional discipline as an attorney.

We will present the questions and our findings in two parts, the first of which we will publish today and Part II, on Tuesday.

PART I – The McHugh Interview that Wasn’t.

Questions that George McHugh has avoided answering

  1. You were elected to be Town of Coeymans Supervisor back in 2001, served one term, and then did not run for a second term. Why was that?

McHugh refused to answer this question. McHugh admits his guilt.

We actually covered this question in two separate articles on the Smalbany blog, so we’ll just refer you to those articles for the details, and recap briefly here: In a Ravena News Herald Article back in 2001, and in a letter to the editor in May 2001, McHugh gave as his reasons for not running for re-election in 2001: his family and his law practice. In March 2019, he changes his story: In an article in the Ravena News Herald, and in his campaign pieces mailed to Coeymans residents, McHugh now claims it was his sense of duty and patriotism after the events of 9/11. George McHugh desecrates the memory and sacrifices of 9/11, and attempts to exploit the giref and emotions associated with the national tragedy of 9/11 to gain political benefit through an outright lie! We say that’s disgraceful and despicable. That alone should cost him your vote. A liar before election is likely to be a liar after the election. (See our Smalbany article: George McHugh: Dishonorable Scoundrel! How Dare You!!!)

  1. The question of the Blaisdell Farm property and your [McHugh’s] housing project on that property has been the subject of a number of inquiries, particularly the fact that the property was annexed by the Village of Ravena at about the time you were Coeymans Town Supervisor, or shortly after you left office. Would you please comment on the circumstances of that annexation and how you benefitted from it? (See our Smalbany article at To McHugh or Not to McHugh.)

McHugh refused to answer this question. McHugh admits his guilt.

One of McHugh’s former wives — he’s gone through 3 and is on his 4th so far — was running Darby Real Estate back in 2001. McHugh was a one-term Coeymans Town Supervisor back then. McHugh acquired a number of properties in the Town of Coeymans and “the McHugh family” held real estate in the Town of Coeymans and the Village of Ravena. McHugh acquired the Blaisdell Farm property (now accessed along North Clement Street and Laura Lane) and planned to “develop” that property but the property did not have access to water or sewerage, which was an obstacle to development. Evidence points to McHugh’s possible abuse of his public office as Town Supervisor, and his Republican controlled Town Board, to get the McHugh property annexed by the Village of Ravena, and so to get access to water and sewer. Once McHugh hatched the plan and had the annexation plan rolling in the right direction, he was ready to leave public office, and get back to his real estate operations. After a lawsuit the property was annexed to the Village of Ravena, and McHugh built and sold several single-family residences. We reported on this egregious abuse of office in a Smalbany article.(See our Smalbany article at To McHugh or Not to McHugh.)

A crook before the election will be a crook after the election; if he abused public office before, he’ll probably do it again.

  1. You were appointed to a federal administrative law judgeship. It would appear that you are no longer serving in that capacity. Can you tell us what happened to the judgeship?

McHugh refused to answer this question. McHugh admits his guilt.

In 2015, McHugh was appointed to be an administrative judge for the Social Security’s Office of Disability Adjudication and Review (SSODAR). That appointment was a federal position and was a lifetime appointment. McHugh lasted about a year in the position and then returned to be Carver Laraway’s  general counsel. For most attorney’s such an appointment would be a feather in their cap, a star in their career. But for McHugh, it was an obstacle, because he would not be able to practice law for private clients. In other words, he wouldn’t be Carver Laraway’s general counsel, and make the huge bucks he had his eye on.

McHugh is generally silent as to the reasons why he gave up the judgeship or lost it. True, he does have a history of significant and serious ethical problems. Were they the reason?

Given McHugh’s ethical problems, the ones he was caught with, that is, and his apparent abuse of the Supervisor’s Office in 2001, how can Coeymans residents and voters trust him in 2019, now that he has his eyes on a piece of the pie with Carver Laraway and Lafarge?

In a recent Times Union article and interview done in May 2019 by Laurin Stanworth, “Is Coeymans candidate too close to port owner?” quoting directly from the Stanworth article: “McHugh, who is running as a Republican for the town’s $35,000 part-time post, acknowledged his ongoing connection to Carver Companies. In an interview with the Times Union, he [McHugh] said he would continue to do legal work for Laraway if asked.”

Conflicts of interest before the election are conflicts of interest after the election.

  1. Your campaign slogan is “Take Back Our Town,” from whom do you expect to take it back?

McHugh refused to answer this question. McHugh admits his guilt.

Our research and McHugh’s own statements answer this question: McHugh wants to take back HIS town from honest men and women, and hand it over to his keepers and clients, Carver Laraway and LaFarge. It’s clear from a Times Union interview done in May 2019 by Laurin Stanworth, “Is Coeymans candidate too close to port owner?

Quoting directly from the Stanworth article: “McHugh, who is running as a Republican for the town’s $35,000 part-time post, acknowledged his ongoing connection to Carver Companies. In an interview with the Times Union, he said he would continue to do legal work for Laraway if asked.” What about conflicts of interest? Stanworth asked the question and when “[a]sked about the appearance of conflict of interest in his running for supervisor, McHugh said, “The only people who have brought it up [the question of conflict of interest] is the Times Union.”

That’s not true, McHugh! The question is a glaring question already asked by many people, many times. You and your hoodlums are just ignoring the people.

McHugh would probably respond that if any issues about Carver or LaFarge were to come before the Coeymans Town Board, he would “recuse himself.” Not good enough, Georgie!

You see, McHugh is running with two young pups with no life experience to speak of and certainly no political experience. You might gloss over that by parroting McHugh’s line that the Board needs young people. Or that he wants to appeal to younger voters by having younger running mates. But the actual reason is much darker, much more sinister. You see, if by some catastrophic stroke of bad luck, McHugh were actually to be honestly and legally elected, which is a longshot, indeed, he would control the Coeymans Town Board with at least a 3-2 majority or a 3-1 majority, even if McHugh actually were to recuse himself. Given the characters and immaturity of Zach Collins and Brendan Lefevre, McHugh would have no problem controlling them to do whatever he told them to do. They are mere puppets. Then there’s Daniel “Dan” Baker, who’s already shown himself to be a member of the McHugh camp while being on the Crandall Board.

The point is this: with a Town Board packed with McHugh puppets, McHugh can still recuse himself and still give Carver Laraway or LaFarge exactly what they ask for.

It sure is a “Comeback Team” and they sure will “Take Back” the town, but not like you were thinking and not how they want you to think. McHugh wants a come-back so he can take back the town and get what he wants and what his keepers want. He wants it just like he had it in 2001, when he wanted water and sewer for his planned project.

  1. Who are the Friends of Coeymans? Do they have names?

McHugh refused to answer this question. McHugh admits his guilt.

At this late date, nearly everyone in Coeymans and beyond know who the Friends of Coeymans are, and why they’re known by most residents as the Fiends of Coeymans or the epithet, Coeymans FOCs. We also know what, why, and for whom they are doing what they do. Jeff LaQuire (the Coeymans Clown following people around with his smartphone recorder going), Nate Boomer (Bacon Boy who off camera is a thug, on camera is a pathetic whiner), and Chris Hagen (brother of killer Travis Hagen. By the way, whatever did happen to that investigation.) are McHugh confederates and bullies posing as concerned citizens, but doing McHugh’s dirty work and propaganda for him. McHugh’s using them, advising them, and keeping his own hands clean. That’s how McHugh works: he uses anyone he can to get what he wants. Collins, Lefevre, Baker, 4 wives, anyone.

In general, the FOCs are just ignorant clowns attracting other ignorant clowns to support a self-interested, greedy Scoundrel.

Neonazis. If you have ever had the opportunity to observe their sillyness at a Coeymans Town Board meeting where they make animal noises (which come natural to them), call other residents names, follow attendees around with a smartphone recording or videoing them, interrupting private conversations, force people to leave the meeting and even the Town Hall, make it necessary to have police present at public meetings, you’ll know what we mean when we call them neonazi thugs. They use the same tactics. They are schizoid. One minute, for example, Nate Boomer is in the middle of the FOC pack spewing insults and abuse, and in the next moment, posing for Jeff LaQuire’s video, he’s standing at the mike making a passionate and pitiful appeal for cooperation. The live clown performance at the meeting is to send a message to residents; the video is for posting on their Facebook propaganda site. Reminds you of some third world dictator, doesn’t it?

Thugs before the election are certain to be worse thugs after the election.

Could this be out of the Friends of Coeymans highschool yearbook?

It makes you want to vomit when they then preach freedom of speech, truth, etc. That’s not the message their behavior sends. Ask Coeymans residents.

The real message being sent by Friends of Coeymans, George McHugh’s thugs.

Part II of the McHugh Interview that Wasn’t will be Published on Tuesday, October 29, 2019.

Crandall Interview: Segment 2

We published Segment 1 of the Crandall Interview special feature on Tuesday, October 22, 2019. As our readers could see for themselves, the Crandall team has either accomplished or is accomplishing everything McHugh’s mob promises the people in their campaign material. We have to seriously ask the questions: (1) Is McHugh that ignorant of what’s going on in Coeymans to be promising what’s already been done by the Crandall team, or (2) Is McHugh that stupid to believe that the people and voters of Coeymans are that in the dark to believe his many disgusting lies? Segment 2 goes even further to show that McHugh is a fraud, a crook, and worse, a liar.

In Segment 1 of the Crandall Interview feature (Segment 1), we asked Mr Crandall about his accomplishments, significant benefits created by his administration for the people of Coeymans, his vision for the next 2 years, his plans for small business in Coeymans, and the incentives his administration is offering to small businesses in Coeymans and coming to Coeymans. It is clear that Mr Crandall and his team, despite the adversity of powerful opponents in Coeymans, has done much for the people of Coeymans.

Editor’s Comment: We may have had harsh words but we call the shots as we see them. Mr Crandall has proved himself to be honest, caring, and very, very competent as a leader. We can’t allow ourselves to be misled by those who were for Mr Crandall when he was dancing to their tune, and now that they are finding he’s not a pushover, they [McHugh, Carver Laraway, Biers, and Lafarge] are trying to get in through the backdoor, call it anal entry, through George McHugh (we’re not calling George McHugh an a**hole even if he is one). For Crandall, as we all know, it was never about him or about money in his pocket; it’s a different story when we’re talking about McHugh, Carver Laraway, and their bunch. With them it’s all about money and what they can soak Coeymans for.

The comment by the Community Observer about McHugh, LaFarge, and Carver Laraway not wanting clean air, and the money involved set the theme for Segment 2.

Mr Crandall:- “Oh, yeah. There’s big money to be made between Carver [LaFarge and McHugh]…They’re going to make money. But how much money does a person need? How greedy do you have to be? And at what expense? At the expense of our children’s and our grandchildren’s lungs?”

McHugh, Carver, Biers didn’t get their way. Too bad!

In Segment 2 of the Crandall Interview, we asked Mr Crandall how he will work with the Village of Ravena to beautify Main Street, his plans for building up tourism and hospitality venues in Coeymans, his relationship with George McHugh, why George McHugh would be bad for Coeymans, the McHugh-Carver Laraway-Vinciguerra connection, the Billy Biers warehouse project, Carver Laraway’s whining, how many new businesses Crandall has brought to Coeymans, and turncoat Daniel Baker’s backstabbing. These are some real eye-openers so after you read these excerpts, you may want to read the complete segment for the details at: Crandall Interview-Segment 2.

Here are the highlight excerpts from Segment 2 of the Crandall Interview:

Smalbany:- How do you intend to work with the Village of Ravena to beautify Main Street, and make it welcoming to small businesses like arts and crafts, specialty shops, etc?

This could be Main Street, Ravena, New York, if Mr Crandall has his way.

Mr. Crandall:-    OK. The main way we can help with that is by keeping the roads paved, by keeping the potholes filled. Making sure things like the water runs right, making sure the sewers are repaired. Making sure the tax rate is kept low. Make sure that we offer these incentives for businesses. Now, one thing I want to mention is that we are working with three solar [energy] companies right now. One is a pretty large one, Hecate. And they want to build a solar farm behind the school, over by the old Stalker farm, and they’re going to be using about 380 acres…once they get their plant built, that will be on the assessment rolls, and help to lower taxes…We’re trying to get them to offer the Town people a deal that they can tap into their electric, and possibly lower their electrical bill…There are two smaller companies trying to build in the Hollow, and Hecate is also looking at our old land fill site. It’s possible that they may also be able to put part of a solar farm there, also, on top of the old landfill site that we kept, and which will help make use of that property because you really can’t use it for anything else. So, that’s another thing we’re working on.

“Out in the Hollow…I want to keep it centralized around the Highway Department, we’re talking about starting a small recycling center. Much like what Westerlo has…opening it up maybe two or three days a week…and it would provide another service for the townspeople.”

Mr. Crandall:- The devil’s in the details. The idea’s there right now.

Smalbany:- Back to Mr. McHugh’s relationship with you and the Town: In 2017-18, your relationship with George McHugh was cooperative, if not friendly. What happened to change that relationship, that attitude of cooperation?

Mr. Crandall:-    What do I think changed that? Money! Money. There’s somehow, I can’t prove it, but with all that we went through with LaFarge and stopping the garbage coming in there, and with Mr. Laraway coming up so hard against us, against the Clean Air Law, and with LaFarge and Mr. Laraway putting up so much money against us…he spent $13,000 just on the primaries…that’s a vast amount of money for a small town…to be spent on politics. So there’s money to be made here. And there’s a lot of it.

“And they’re really opposed to the Clean Air Law. The main reason I think they’re running is because of the Clean Air Law.

“And I think Mr. Laraway feels that we haven’t given him enough tax breaks down there. But we have given him P.I.L.O.T.s[1] How many P.I.L.O.T.s does the man need? How many tax breaks does he need?

“Like I say: You gotta pay your fair share.”

Smalbany:- Apart from that, why would George Mchugh be bad for Coeymans? As if what you’ve said were not enough!

Mr. Crandall:-    George McHugh would be bad for Coeymans just because of, mainly because of his character. I’m no saint. I’ve had my own problems with the Court system. But with the Courts system, you’re held to such a high standard, it’s absolutely ridiculous. And I’m not an attorney, so I did make mistakes. I’ll grant you that. But he’s an attorney! And he [McHugh] was under two ethics investigations involving money. Mine never involved money; his involved money. He was under an ethics investigation for having his [personal] property surveyed along with Town property, and the Town paying for it. And his own Town Board, which was controlled by Republicans, had him under an ethics investigation for that. And then, he was attorney for the state Wagering Board, and he went before them, he had a private client, and he represented him before the state Racing and Wagering Board, while he was their [the Racing and Wagering Board’s] attorney! He was under another ethics investigation by the state Attorney General for that. They kind of eased him out the door after that. Now, there’s two reasons: ethics.

George McHugh = Ethics Violations = Corruption.

How many times…I know I shouldn’t say this, but I’m gonna…How many times can a man be married? I mean, twice, maybe? But four times? I mean, there’s something wrong with character here. And character matters.

And another thing: He didn’t run for office again. OK, there are probably a lot of reasons…But then, he comes up and he outright lies, and uses the deaths of over 3,000 people who died instantly in a horrible, horrible thing that happened on 9/11 in New York City. He tries to use that for political gain! That tells me about a man’s character, and I feel he has no character.

I just feel he [George McHugh] lies with impunity to get whatever…to get his way, whatever he wants. And I don’t understand people like that. I just don’t. Because I’m not a liar.

Community Observer’s Comment:-   You have Lincoln’s quote on the wall.

[Editor’s Note: The Observer is referring to the quote: “You can please some of the people all of the time, you can please all of the people some of the time, but you can’t please all of the people all of the time.”]

Mr. Crandall:-    Yes. I have Lincoln’s quote on the wall.

Smalbany:- Without speculating, what is your opinion about the McHugh, Laraway, Vinciguerra connection?

Mr. Crandall:-    It’s common knowledge that Vinciguerra has been George McHugh’s friend for years. They’ve worked together in business dealings for years…I just feel that they are way too cozy. And he’s [referring to Vinciguerra] supposed to be the editor [read: publisher] of an independent, unbiased newspaper [referring to the Ravena News Herald]? I don’t feel that the News Herald is unbiased at all. How can they be? Carver Laraway is buying all kinds of ads in it, George McHugh’s buying ads in it. He [Vinciguerra, publisher of the RNH] is renting the building from George McHugh.

Vinciguerra of Capital Region Independent Media LLC, and publisher of the Ravena News Herald. Anything but “Independent” and a perversion of what the News Herald once was. Vinciguerra is McHugh’s and Carver Laraway’s media sock puppet.

“He [George McHugh] has so many business connections how can he possibly serve as Supervisor of this Town? He’ll have to recuse himself from every other meeting, if not every meeting of the Town Board.

Smalbany:- What are the reasons for withdrawal of the warehouse application by Billy Biers?

Mr. Crandall:-    “The real reason that Billy Bier’s application went down the tubes is because the [New York State] Department of Environmental Conservation [DEC] denied it for many, many reasons. Mr. Biers contacted me. He asked me if there’s any way I can help? Would I write a letter in support, so that they would reopen it and look at it again? I wrote a letter to DEC asking them to please give Mr. Biers’ project another look; we would really appreciate it if they would; we would really like this business to come into the Town.

Billy Biers’ Warehouse Project REJECTED by DEC, not by Town!
Biers’ lies publicly at Town Board meeting.

I sent that letter. For Mr. Biers to get up and say anything other than what we really did for him is an outright lie.

I’ve never called a Planning Board member in my life and asked for anything from them for anybody. I’ve never approached them. The Zoning Board, either. Or the Assessment Board. And I never will. Those are unethical things. Would Mr. McHugh violate that? I don’t know.

[Editor’s Note: We have copies of the DEC letter to Mr. Biers, Mr. Bier’s letter withdrawing the application, and Mr. Crandall’s letter of support to the DEC. We will publish those later this week.]

Smalbany:- In a recent video posted by the group calling itself Friends of Coeymans, Mr. Carver Laraway addressed the board saying that he asked for the board’s support and got none. What is he talking about?

Mr. Crandall:-    I have no idea. He might be talking about the last P.I.L.O.T. he wanted for a company… They refurbish old parts and metal pieces, mainly parts that connect sewer systems, they refurbish stuff like that. But we have a negotiator, a Mr. Larry Farbstein. He worked for the [New York State] Real Property Tax Services for 32 years. He’s a former lawyer; he doesn’t practice law any more, he just negotiates contracts for P.I.L.O.T.s, full time, from Long Island to Saint Lawrence County. Throughout the whole state. He does it for municipalities. We hired that man. He did our P.I.L.O.T. for LaFarge with the Town. He handles all of our P.I.L.O.T.s, and I told him [Laraway], “Mr. Farbstein will be calling you.” Well, Mr. Farbstein called him and asked him for certain information he needed by law in order to fairly do a P.I.L.O.T., and they wouldn’t give it to him. It was financial. They have to tell, they have to give him all the financial information, the financial records, that he needs. They refused to give it to him. And that’s where it left off.

P.I.L.O.T. Denied because of unwillingness to disclose financial information.

“I can only assume that because we didn’t just carte blanche roll over for him and sign off on Mr. Laraway’s P.I.L.O.T., that that’s what he’s talking about.

“Why didn’t he talk about the 11 new businesses that have come in in the last three-and-a-half years since I’ve been Supervisor? Would those businesses have come here if the Town Board was hostile to business? I don’t think so.

[Editor’s Note: Click New Businesses Brought to Coeymans to see the list of new businesses during Crandall’s term. 11 of those businesses are in the Port of Coeymans or the Coeymans Industrial Park. New Businesses Brought to Coeymans]

“He [Laraway] had other P.I.L.O.T.s that were negotiated by the Town. I mean, how many tax breaks does one man need? How greedy to you have to be? It’s time to pay your fair share.

“Now you look at all the business he’s gotten…for the Tappan Zee Bridge, that was Cuomo’s baby, and all the other business he’s gotten, nobody can tell me…and the small fines that he paid. Anybody see a bridge go over a river, a creek so fast? As that bridge went across. So, he’s got a hook in DEC or in the state departments somewhere, with Cuomo. But these companies like the Port of Coeymans and LaFarge, they figure it into their…to do business, how much it will cost them for a certain fine. And he’s [Carver Laraway] paid relatively small fines. I think he paid $55,000 for one fine, which was a major violation, which the Town got back, and we were able to use that money to stop…There were three three, four houses on Stone House Hill that were running raw sewerage into the [Coeymans] Creek. That was going on when George McHugh was supervisor.

“There were four houses there, ever since they were built, and he [McHugh] never did anything to stop that. Well, I’m not having that! So, we used that $55,000 – and I think we put another $15,000 to it – too hook them in to the sewer system, to stop that raw sewerage from going into the Creek. So, Mr. Laraway can thank me for that, because now he owns the property down there where the boats are, the Marina, and now they won’t be smelling human feces coming into the Creek.

“But did he mention that? No!

“Everything he said at the meeting was just a show, trying to get people to not vote for Mr. Crandall.

Smalbany:- But he was being videoed by the Friends of Coeymans…

Mr. Crandall:-    Right. They were hoping that I would go off and start yelling and…but that’s not me…I’m not doing that…But if they expect to get a rise out of me out there, they’re not getting it. Public comment is public comment. I don’t care who you are or what you say…I don’t care who you are, it’s public comment: Say it! It’s a free country.

Mr. Crandall:-    Can I go back to the Clean Air Law?

Smalbany:- Sure. I wish you would.

Mr. Crandall:-    While we were working on this Clean Air Law, Dan Baker and Kenny Burns, sat right here, and Baker worked for LaFarge for 15-20 years, and he told us that they’re fudging the numbers on their, on the numbers when they’re being checked. When the monitors are being checked by DEC. He told us that DEC calls them, and then immediately the plant stops burning coal and goes right on natural gas so they can doctor the numbers, so the emissions numbers come down. What the hell kind of emissions control is that? And this is when Mr. Baker also, when someone sent him a picture when there was a blow-off up there, and all this black smoke came out, right across from the school. It was awful. I remember seeing the picture. He sent that to us on his cellphone. This was when he was for the Clean Air Law. He spoke for it, he was [for it], everything was going fine. And then, all of a sudden, Mr. McHugh, decides, announces he’s running for office in March, and that’s when Dan Baker changed.

Mr. Crandall:-    But Mr. Baker, all of a sudden…we would sit here and talk about our kids and grandkids, and how we don’t want them breathing this stuff…And he was all set to vote for the Clean Air Act [read: Law]. I know he was. He told us he was. And then some time in January-February, that must be when he got word that McHugh was running, he started marching, my speculation is McHugh was calling the shots then, and he was marching to the McHugh beat.

And another thing: Kenny Burns, he told us he interviewed over 300 people not one person was against the Clean Air Law, yet when it came to the vote, he voted against it.

Smalbany:- Now this one is what I read to you before. Do you recall? Mr. McHugh’s accomplishments with the Village Sewer and Water project just before he left office (2001). Between leaving office (2001) and 2003, he all of a sudden has a project over on the Blaisdell farm, and now he’s got water and sewerage there. [Referring to Mr. Dolan] You were actually mentioned in one of those …

Mr. Dolan:  I was at some point..the town and village got together and started a sewer and a water commission, two separate entities…I recall that there was talk of annexation, and there was a lawsuit after that, and I know the Coeymans Fire Department was upset about it, because they would lose that portion of territory.

Smalbany:- So this was – I’m not asking you to speculate – what was going on behind the scenes but at this time was the annexation being discussed?

Community Observer’s Comment:-   It was being discussed. Because he used my famous letter to Sol Greenberg to get on the good side of the Mayor (former Ravena Mayor, John Bruno), to get the mayor to say OK, so what do you have property in, to get the water. He always used people. [inaudible comments]

[Editor’s Notes: The annexation was in the works during McHugh’s single term as Coeymans Town Supervisor. The annexation was finalized some time in 2003, and McHugh’s properties were hooked into Village water and sewerage. McHugh then proceeded with development of single family homes and their sale, apparently through one of his wives, who was handling the real estate sales at the time.

Remember this honey of a land deal. McHugh took good care of himself.

Christmas is Coming Early this Year: Crandall Interviews

The Crandall interviews were done yesterday evening, and will be published in three segments during the week of October 21-25, 2019. There’s a lot of great information in those interview questions, so the Smalbany blog want’s to get it out there in small doses. A short commentary on the interviews will be published in advance of the Interviews. Get the word out and send this link to all your friends and contacts: https://smalbanynewyork.wordpress.com/

Only Cowards Hide Behind Silence and Lies

George McHugh has avoided debating Phil Crandall on at least three occasions. Crandall stated his willingness and provided McHugh with dates for at least 3 debate opportunities. McHugh has gone into hiding. His thugs, calling themselves “Friends of Coeymans,” are taking care of spreading the fear and the false facts (read: lies).

George McHugh was invited at least three times to be interviewed to answer questions about his background, the judgeship he doesn’t seem to want to talk about, his connections with LaFarge, Carver Laraway, Billy Biers, the Ravena News Herald, Mark Vinciguerra, the State Racing Commission, how he allegedly got fired by Carver Laraway, etc., etc., but he has refused to be interviewed. We wanted to know why he has to misrepresent the facts and talk gibberish in his campaign. All McHugh and his thugs can do is make wild vague statements without presenting any real meat-and-potato facts. We have the documents and the facts already, all we want from McHugh is his statements on what we have, but he’s running scared.

McHugh’s version of transparency is about as clear as mud; the same stuff he and his friends like to sling instead of arguing with facts and truth.

Mudslinging: promoting lies and making accusations against the opposing party in order to make themselves look better.
The McHugh campaign strategy supported by the Coeymanazi Clowns, Friends of Coeymans.

If McHugh Won’t Answer Questions Now, Do You Think He’s Going be More Transparent, Open, and Accountable IF Elected? NOT!!!

Why is George McHugh so terrified of debating or interviewing?

We know why he’s so terrified of debating or interviewing. We have documents and facts to show that he’s a crook, a coward, and worse: a LIAR.

Wouldn’t it be great if liar’s did actually catch fire?

Zach Collins and Brandon Lefevre: Daddy McHugh’s got your Strings, Boys. Just Dance for Daddy!

So you think Georgie Boy is such a war hero? You think he’s God’s gift to Coeymans with his two young pups; “pups”.that’s short for PUPPETS. Georgie will be pulling their chains and their strings just like he’s doing now. They’re too young and gullible to see through his sneaky plan for them.

Zach Collins + Brandon Lefevre
Enjoy the dance, boys. Daddy McHugh will pull your strings.

For the Tanners and Driscoll-s, and the rest of the friendless and brainless who hang out on the Friends of Coeymans page, and can’t read between the lines of their propaganda, we’re providing you with a picture that you just might understand.

George McHugh and his thugs, Friends of Coeymans, are playing Coeymans voters like puppets on strings.  Dance little puppets! Dance!
Manipulating and controlling with threats and lies. Facebook has become Friends of McHugh’s weapon of mass destruction, and McHugh wants to make Coeymans Ground Zero!

The Problem with Facebook and Friends of Coeymans

A Comment from the Editor

I receive emails from readers telling me to check out Facebook. I receive screenshots of posts on Facebook. Do I trust Facebook. In a word: NO. Facebook is a fools’ forum; the information is rubbish, the dialogue is idiotic, and the people posting on most of the groups are sicko-s. Did I have a Facebook account? Yes, but it got old real fast. Now, I don’t do Facebook. It has nothing to offer.

Furthermore, I’ve done quite a bit of research on social media, particularly Facebook, and the authoritative sources don’t paint a very pretty picture of the platform or of the users. The kind of people that spend more than ten minutes a day on a social media have significant socialization and personal problems. Some spend an hour or more on the platform. It’s a sick sign of the times. Pew Research, Gallup have done the research on the problem of Facebook and the types of users and their characteristics. It’s not pretty. The NIH medical research platform, Pubmed, has hundreds of scientific research publications reporting the dangerous social and psychological effects of spending more than an hour a day on Facebook. I believe the most recent edition of the leading psych diagnostic manual, the DSM (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual) even has a Facebook use syndrome as a recognized disorder. When someone asks if I have a Facebook account. I just smile, and say “No.” So many good ideas today go amok because they attract the wrong kinds of people for the wrong reasons, and a lot of harm is done because people are irresponsible. The Friends of Coeymans Facebook presence is an illustrative example of what happens when greed and corruption of one kind or another is involved, and no one seems to care.

Some say it keeps people connected but that’s not true. What it does do is give them an easy out, and cuts them off from meaningful communication and connection. Most reasonable people would prefer a face-to-face conversation or a telephone conversation if the distance is too great. Other’s might want to get their facts from reliable sources. Many of us prefer to make our friends the old-fashion way. Some of us would rather have a debate and reach an understanding on some controversy, not silence the other party and ban them because you don’t like what they have to say.

As I mentioned above, I don’t have a Facebook account, and I don’t need or want one to keep informed. I also mentioned that I get a lot of emails from readers with Facebook accounts, who send me screenshots.

Editor’s Aside: Rather than risk being conveniently misinterpreted by a select few, who stand ready to pounce on the “technophobe,” I do want to clarify that I honestly believe that the concept of social media can work well in certain circumstances. Those circumstances depend on the user’s sense of responsibility and integrity, however. Social media should be an adjunct, a complement to normal interpersonal engagement, not a substitute or a replacement. But given the history of Facebook, it has abuse built in.  It started when Zuckerberg teamed up with several classmates and created Facemash, a platform that compared on-campus women’s faces with farm animals, and asked subscribers which one was “hotter.” Sweet, right? Here’s an excerpt from the history of Facebook:

FaceMash, Facebook’s predecessor, opened in 2003. Developed by Mark Zuckerberg, he wrote the software for the Facemash website when he was in his second year of college. The website was set up as a type of “hot or not” game for Harvard students. The website allowed visitors to compare two female student pictures side-by-side and let them decide who was hot or not…Zuckerberg faced expulsion and was charged by the administration with breach of security, violating copyrights, and violating individual privacy.
(Sourcehttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_Facebook, last accessed on October 11, 2019)

Neither Zuckerberg nor Facebook have since improved their performance; they’re still liars and still abusive. It appears they tend to attract the same types of people, with few exceptions.

Facebook tends to create online addicts and non-thinkers, that is, subscribers tend to suspend thinking and to absorb whatever is fed to them.  Does that sound familiar?

facebook judges_01-05-19

Facebook takes ‘normal’ people and transforms them into
angry,  judgmental sheeple.

Most of the time I graciously thank them and trash the screenshots, since most of the language is either illiterate or unintelligible, or both. But Smalbany just posted an article on a group calling itself the Friends of Coeymans, and we suggested that they are bullies, fascists, and in league with George McHugh, and McHugh’s keepers. We intend to prove that statement but we are timing our exposé until just before the elections.

As many of our readers know, we have championed the cause of Emily Kern, the mother of the lad who was killed last year in a tragic motorcycle-pickup truck accident just outside the Sycamore Country Club. A local man, Travis Hagen, was the driver of the pick-up truck. He’s the brother of Chris Hagen of the Friends of Coeymans.

Now, we’ve had a lot to report on that accident, and nothing’s been resolved. It’s been a big under-the-carpet issue that’s caused a lot of people a lot of heartache. So, what’s that got to do with Friends of Coeymans, you might ask. Good question.

You see, there’s the obvious connection between George McHugh and the Fiends of Coeymans. There’s also a connection between Carver Laraway and Carver Companies, and George McHugh. We think there’s also a connection between McHugh, Carver Laraway, and the agenda of the Fiends of Coeymans.

Politics and politicians and their lackeys have a very bad reputation but Smalbany watches, listens, and waits. It all comes out in the end.

Emily Kern is no pushover. She’s a tigress and someone’s killed her cub. She’s been going after answers like a star reporter, and she’s collected some very interesting facts. We’ll be presenting some of those facts in an upcoming, pre-election article. Mr McHugh and his Fiends may come out with some thick egg on their faces when it does.

Mrs Kern recently posted a comment asking why Kate Lisa never did a story on Riley’s death. I’d like to share my response with you:

Dear Emily,
Kate Lisa is part of the machine. She works for the News Herald, which is part of Capital Region Independent Media, which is anything but “Independent,” and Capital Region Independent Media is “owned” by Mark Vinciguerra, who is owned by George McHugh and his supporters.

In an email from McHugh, he refused to help you with Riley’s case because, as McHugh stated in that email, he was “conflicted.” He was “conflicted” alright, and that’s an understatement. You see, the three clowns calling themselves “Friends of Coeymans,” and better known by most of the Coeymans community as the “Fiends of Coeymans,” are three local bullies posing as community activists, but who are actually working with McHugh, Carver Laraway, a character named Billy Biers, and others. They all have a special interest in getting McHugh elected, who will then set up shop and do a lot of favors that will benefit him when he leaves office after ruining Coeymans after one term. He did that in 2000-2001.

He’s conflicted because Riley’s killer, Travis Hagen, is the brother of Chris Hagen, one of the Three Stooges making up the Fiends. McHugh won’t hang one of his henchmen’s kinfolk and loose the thugs’ support; after all they’re doing his dirty work for him. Kate Lisa won’t lift a finger to help you by even writing a story, because she’d have to mention Travis Hagen, etc., and run the risk of pissing McHugh off, and in turn pissing Mark Vinciguerra off, and then she’s out on the street, jobless. (She must be one pretty lousy reporter anyway if she has to work for a lame local rag like the Ravena News Herald. Either that or she’s doing one of the scoundrels, possibly Vinciguerra or McHugh?)

Well, that’s how we figure it.
Hope you are well!

But back to the Fiends of Coeymans and character. Those readers who have experienced first hand the abuse by the Fiends of Coeymans won’t be able to share that on the Friends’ Facebook page; they’ve been banned. But there are those who don’t feel they need to join the mob to get friends, or to take a position on local politics. One such reader sent some screenshots that say a lot about the Fiends of Coeymans. I’d like to share those shots without further comment, since they speak for themselves, more than I can say about the victims, dead and alive, of the Fiends of Coeymans and their friends and relatives.

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

This being the real world, there will be some out there who will turn themselves inside out to find excuses for these Coeymans Clowns, others will likely shrug it off as “boys just being boys,” still others will point the finger at Smalbany for being in their face with unpleasant reminders. Well, people, these are not teenagers, they are grown up men, who need to grow up. Jeff LaQuire, Nate Boomer, and Chris Hagen are men who need to grow out of school bully stage. They are men, who rather than enter into an adult and constructive dialogue, bring their bullyism into the public forum. And then there are those in their fan club, who don’t have identities or minds of their own, and prefer to be the Friends’ sheeple. I think we can handle all that; we’ve dealt with worse, much worse in this community and have come out on top.

CENSORSHIP!

The question is: Can the rest of Coeymans survive and still feel safe in their homes if these characters and their keepers “take back their town. What will be left for the rest of us when that happens?

I personally make no apologies for my distaste and disapproval of the tactics employed by the so-called Friends of Coeymans, more aptly called the Fiends of Coeymans by many, and I take particular umbrage at their ignorance of government, administrative procedures, Town law and Open Meetings Law. I also find Carver Laraway’s and others’ conspicuous pandering to the McHugh agenda and the misconduct of the Coeymans Clowns, Jeff LaQuire, Nate Boomer and Chris Hagen, whose clown performances and snide remarks at public meetings are nothing less that a slap in Lady Liberty’s already bruised face.

Lady-Liberty-Weeping

Say what you like about this blog but no one can claim that we have published anything but true facts in the public’s interest, and we will continue to do so. That’s more than we can say about some of Carver Laraway’s, George McHugh’s, or the Fiends’ agenda, so stay tuned for our scathing report on Mr George McHugh.

Meanwhile, the big question for the Friends of Coeymans is: “Will that 56-pack of beer be enough to get them thru to lunch?” Meanwhile, they’ll be cruising the roads in their pickups, six-in-the-belly, one-in-the-hand, the other 49 will be in the back of the truck. Watch out if you’re on a motorcycle.

Stay tuned for our pre-election report on
Mr McHugh’s deafening silence.

“Friends of Coeymans” a.k.a. “Fiends of Coeymans”: McHugh’s Thugs

Coeymans has always been fertile ground for a bumper crop of bullies but the so-called “Friends of Coeymans,” popularly known by many Coeymans residents as “Fiends of Coeymans,” is a real special brand of domestic terrorist, the George McHugh campaign’s answer to Nazi Germany’s roaming fascist bands of thugs.

Thanks to a number of tips received from a number of Coeymans residents, who appear to be concerned about a new bully group in the Town of Coeymans — as if Coeymans didn’t have enough bullies as it is —, a local group calling themselves “Friends of Coeymans. ” The group’s bully tactics and brutish conduct in public meetings has earned them the dubious epithet of “Fiends of Coeymans.” So, in response to residents’ requests to investigate and to publish our findings, we’d like to respond in this initial post, pending our more in-depth investigations.

First of all, we note that these so-called “Friends of Coeymans” are a very small group consisting of three local clowns — for now let’s just be kind and call them the “Coeymans Clowns” —, with all the charm of a John Wayne Gacy clown, are closely associated with the McHugh campaign for Town Supervisor.[1] We’ll get to McHugh in a very revealing and troubling report on his past and present activities.

The Fiends of Coeymans appear to have an agenda of disrupt, disorder, and confuse the issues of the elections, the candidates, and to create general confusion and conflict in the Coeymans community. Far from being anything you could possibly define as a friend, these Coeymans Clowns are destructive and damaging. Of course, being on Facebook, they have collected a gaggle of Facebook freaks, addicts who spend their waking hours scrolling through illiterate comments posted by their fake friends.

If a group wants to be acknowledged as “friends” of any community, they should first state their goal as being for the public good and acting in the interests of the public, not a partisan political campaign. These Coeymans Clowns are interested in nothing but their Neanderthal sadistic pleasure, something that appears to be their perverse notion of masculinity or good citizenship. Maybe in Stalin’s Russia or Hitler’s Germany, but not here in the United States.

Unfortunately, some of the more ignorant and misguided souls (read: Mary Driscoll and her ilk) seem to have adopted this contemporary re-casting of the Three Stooges — and we believe they are actually stooges, stooges of George McHugh and his keepers [2]

Of course, the Fiends of Coeymans have a Facebook page, the Clowns practice their own brand of censorship, propaganda, and abuse on that page, which has also been a problem, say residents.

This is a Fair Use site. One of our contributors received a threatening email from a woman called Kate Lisa, who is working for the rag, the Ravena News Herald, demanding that the Smalbany blog take done the photo of the Fiends of Coeymans. George McHugh is apparently still running the Ravena News Herald, despite the fact that Mark Vinciguerra has purchased it and his misnamed Capital Region Independent Media is mismanaging it. McHugh isn’t going to let his lackeys take any punches. At the contributor’s request, not Kate Lisa’s, we have removed the photo not because we had to, but out of courtesy. Our contributor asked Kate Lisa to give permission to use the photo, just to be friendly, but she refused. No problem, we got our mileage from it. But we do recommend that the RNH watermark their images or at least place a clear and conspicuous © on their images, like anyone else would have the good sense to do. Provincial is as provincial does. Do you smell pork belly burning?

The three clowns behind the Friends of Coeymans, and the operators of the Facebook Friends of Fascism page, have been identified as Jeff LaQuire (is that really pronounced “la queer”?), Nate Boomer (Boomer?!? Is he booming Jeff?)  and Chris Hagen. It may be worth knowing that one of the Clowns, Chris Hagen, is the brother of controversial Travis Hagen, the individual involved in the tragic death of 19-year old Riley Kern last year. It seems the Hagens have a tendency to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. As we mentioned above, the Clowns are associated with the McHugh campaign, and are garnering support from the News Herald, George McHugh’s pet.

The Coeymans Clowns are a very good example of the worst in abuse of free speech. They are using not only the local opportunities for signage to mislead Coeymans residents — the Clowns can’t possibly afford to rent the billboard space they have on 9W, so our question is: Who is paying for it? Marc Vinciguerra of the Ravena News Herald? George McHugh? Carver Laraway? —  they’re all in bed together — and they have the willing ear of McHugh’s pet newspaper, the Ravena News Herald, the local media whore. What’s worse is that they have a Facebook page that most social media addicts can find with no problem,  and, if they say what the Fiends of Coeymans, rather, the Clowns of Coeymans want to hear, and if it supports their special interest agenda, it gets posted for all to read. But if you question any of the propaganda or disagree, look forward to being banned, and then after being banned and deprived of the opportunity to respond, they’ll proceed to trash you. Friends of Coeymans, Clowns of Coeymans, at their democratic best.

Lequire, Boomer, and Hagen are three very scary clowns!

Here’s the hypocrisy of the whole Fiends of Coeymans Facebook scam: They invite free and open discussion and even tout freedom of speech but, as in most dictatorships and fascist regimes, your freedom of speech goes only as far as the narrow limits of what the Clowns want to hear, and what they want their “friends” to see. In my book and by my definition, that’s called censorship and propaganda. It has no place in a free and democratic society.

But when the thugs get some computer skills, that’s the place where things go. Fascist thugs and computer skills are a toxic mix.

Problem is, there are so many gullible, ignorant, even downright stupid residents in Coeymans, who are such pitifully lonely creatures, they’ll do anything to get a friend. Hell, they’ll swallow anything — and I mean anything — if you’ll just say Hi! to them. So it’s that bunch that are really attracted to the Clowns’ group. The burning question is: Are you one of them?

If anyone has seen the movies about dictatorships like Nazi Germany or any place where fear ruled, you always have the scene where the thugs enter a public meeting, a gathering, or even a church service and intimidate or brutalize those present to the extent that no one goes to the public meeting because they’re afraid of meeting up with the thugs. Well, that’s exactly what we’re seeing now in Coeymans: the Clowns, the Fiends of Coeymans, are appearing at town government meetings ranging from regular town board meetings to planning board meetings and making unpleasant and embarrassing scenes. Just like in Fascist Germany. Their main purpose: to embarrass our elected officials and to intimidate citizens. Some of their Facebook freak friends actually congratulate them on “the good work they’re doing in the community.” Pure insanity! You can’t make this stuff up!

This sort of bullyism has to stop. Only YOU can stop it. Some of Coeymans misguided residents are urging these freaks on; others are encouraging them by giving them attention on Facebook; others are supporting them indirectly by staying away from important democratic institutions like town board meetings, planning board meetings, and public gatherings. Why? Because fascist thugs work that way: they work with lies, threats, bullyism, and intimidation.

Next time you express support for our military and our servicemen, just remember one thing: Our fathers and grandfathers fought against Fascism. Their sons and our brothers and sisters fought against totalitarianism in Korea and Vietnam. Our brothers and sisters fought terrorism in the Middle East. How can Coeymans residents support those sacrifices and still support a group like the Fiends of Coeymans, who are creating their own special brand of domestic terrorism?

Open your eyes! Open your ears! Open your mouths! Say NO! to the fascist thugs in your own front yard! You owe it to him or her who made the ultimate sacrifice so you can talk freely, assemble without intimidation, and exercise your free right to vote!!!

Editor’s Note: Mr George McHugh has recently published some misleading statements relating to his military service, if you can call National Guard service “military” and a cushy office job in the Staff Judge Advocate’s office (That’s where all the attorney’s hang out, far from any bullets or landmines!). We think he has no clue about what it is to be a real soldier. We’ve invited him to be interviewed to clarify those and other questions about his past but he has so far ignored two of our follow-ups. A third one will go out this week and, if he doesn’t have the guts to interview and answer the questions, we’ll publish the facts that we have. No one can say we didn’t give him the chance to clear the air.

[1] John Wayne Gacy was an American serial killer who raped, tortured and murdered at least 33 teenage boys and young men between 1972 and 1978 in Cook County, Illinois. All of Gacy’s known murders were committed inside his Norwood Park ranch house.

[2] The dictionary definition of “stooge” is “a person who serves merely to support or assist others, particularly in doing unpleasant work; perform a role that involves being the butt of a comedian’s jokes; move around aimlessly; drift or cruise.” Aptly applies to the Coeymans Clowns in all aspects.
