Is Church Playing the New Lowest Common Denominator; Sending Mixed Messages

Is Church Playing the New Lowest Common Denominator; Sending Mixed Messages? Or no real message at all?

Is the Church missing the bus? Sending the wrong messages?

Passing through some of our local communities, I frequently notice churches, that is, the physical building, the places of worship, and what characterizes them. The structure, the upkeep, the appearances, the messages posted outside; these say a lot about the people these brick and mortar structure, symbolic representatives of the beliefs and communities they claim they serve. I often see the trite clichés like “God is home, come on in!” or “Be yourself; everyone else is taken” and similar trite slogans. Apparently the Roman Catholic Churches in this area, Ravena and Coxsackie, NY, have given up on being taken seriously so now these parish leaders, the pastors, have to play cool cutsie, mimicking their Protestant and Reformist cohorts. Such silliness simply degrades the sacred space and makes idiots of those few who still frequent them.

This is particularly the case when a new pastor tries to become too popular too fast for too many of the wrong reasons. He starts to get sloppy in his role as spiritual leader and too cozy with the local in-crowds. A leader doesn’t have to be a friend and he doesn’t have to entertain. He has to lead. So, as I drive through the aging, geriatric, brown collar community of Ravena, New York, the local Roman Catholic Church, St Patrick’s, catches my attention. How?

Well, some time ago I was surprised to see a folding sign board placed in front of St Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church in Ravena, on Main Street. It was last Fall and said something like “Leaves fall but Christ doesn’t”. My first thought was that it was rather silly, rather odd. Something I’d expect from some failing Protestant denomination, or some storefront church whose pastor has no other training than what he received in jail, where he got his certificate in Bible Studies from Dumbass Bible Institute or wherever. I knew the pastor at St Pats was one of the young bloods recently ordained, Scott Vandermeer, in his thirties, a journalism degree, able to move around without a walker, he was somewhat more promising than his predecessors, all aging or decrepit, failing, burnt out or uninterested, all cut from the Hubbard School of Ultraliberal Hacks. Careerists. Our hope never failing and our realism always on the watch, we even wrote to Vandermeer offering him help and support. It soon proved that he was going to be just another narcissist; he never responded to our letter. Here we go again!

Soon the signs started going up and were getting weirder and weirder, perhaps because they were cleverly done so as to appeal to the intellectual depths of darkness of the local community. One that appeared:

The sign above is stupid because St Pats does not have a soup kitchen or a food pantry. So not only is the sign a bit idiotic, to anyone not familiar with the local intelligence level, it’s misleading. [Editor’s note: Vanderveer is “out of the country” at the time of this writing and apparently will not be back for another 2-3 weeks, so we could not reach him for comment.  Nor did we receive a response from his office staff.] That really doesn’t matter because it does get worse. Some local in a feeble attempt to put some meaning in his or her life, and for a minute of local fame, placed the “?” on the sign making it even more ridiculous. No one in the parish, not even the absent pastor, seems to have noticed…or cared.

More recently, that is, several weeks ago we again drove by and saw that the sign had been changed to something quite new:

Is a feeble-minded, scandal-plagued Church is going to make the nation strong again?

This time Mr VanDerveer is apparently making a statement that the Church has something to do with the characteristics of the nation, presumably the nation known as the United States, since we are not aware of any Scriptural or Doctrinal references that would support such a statement. It used to be that strong men made strong nations, then strong families but with the castration of the American male and the virilization of the American female, together with the decline and demise of the American family, it seems that a feeble-minded, scandal-plagued Church is going to make the nation strong again. If this notion was part of the preaching series offered by Vanderveer, we are really sorry we missed his performance. But by any standard, given the Separation Clause and the hesitance of government generally or any of its branches specifically to enter into any discussion of a collaboration between Church and state, this statement seems to indicate that Mr VanDerveer is either ignorant or has a boundaries problem. While the Church and churches, that is, the Roman Catholic and Christian tradition — by division and internecine conflict —  has been losing ground since the 16th century, it would seem that Mr VanDerveer and his keepers would be better advised to concentrate on good preaching and catechesis, fostering interdenominational dialogue and collaboration,  reaching out to local opinion leaders rather than making an untenable and unsubstantiated statement like “A strong church [=] a strong nation.” No matter how you analyze such a statement, logically, theologically, socially, or politically it fails. The Church would be well advised to steer clear of politics — and fallacious logic —; a mere parish priest has no business making such statements and should be reprimanded for having done so. It’s irresponsible, insupportable, fallacious, and is simply not official Church teaching. Politics should be kept out of the pulpit and away from the front of the church — or it should be left to the bishops who are the sole church officials authorized by Rome to make asses of themselves.. Mr VanDerveer should be spending more time preaching that strong family values and morality make for a strong nation; sharing Sunday family dinner together without smartphones might be a start. Getting rid of fidget spinners and Facebook, replacing them with a print book, perhaps St Augustine’s Confessions,  in the schools would be a great move, too.  But the Church has failed in that teaching, too, and in getting that message across to the community.

An half hour for God and 3 hours for the ball game seems like a fair deal for most Catholics.

Instead, the Church and its agents, VanDerveer’s colleagues, superiors, and minions, have prostituted the Church, mistaught and continue to pervert doctrine, dogma, and promote error, and have reduced preaching to a 5 minute commentary so that the so-called “faithful” can get there and out the door with 30-45 minutes at most. After all, a half hour for God and 3 hours for the ball game seems like a fair deal for most Catholics.

Get the ^%$# out of the way! I’ll be late for worship…and the game!

The latest stupidity to be posted in front of St Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church apparently has to do with the Biblical myth of Noah and the Deluge found in Genesis, or we may be wrong and VanDerveer’s referring more likely to the bizarre interpretation of the myth provided in the movie, Noah (2014) but here’s the official Biblical version:

“The Lord then said to Noah, “Go into the ark, you and your whole family, because I have found you righteous in this generation. Take with you seven pairs of every kind of clean animal, a male and its mate, and one pair of every kind of unclean animal, a male and its mate, and also seven pairs of every kind of bird, male and female, to keep their various kinds alive throughout the earth. Seven days from now I will send rain on the earth for forty days and forty nights, and I will wipe from the face of the earth every living creature I have made.” (Gen 7:2-4)

Actually, someone should have whacked the one who thought these signs were appropriate! Never mind the mosquitoes. We don’t recall any specific reference to mosquitoes in Genesis (nor in any part of the Bible) nor any cameo appearance of mosquitoes in the film Noah. Perhaps Vanderveer can help us with that one. We do tend to have our facts straight on this blog so we’re reasonably certain that there were no mosquitoes involved. The only other possibility we can think of is that one of Vanderveer’s Scriptural Studies instructors at seminary came upon some previously unknown Biblical text that tells the story of Noah and the mosquitoes. Whatever the story behind it, Vanderveer appears to believe the story. Why else would he publicly post something like that in front of his church? It seems the “unclean animals” were  sent either to Roman Catholic seminary or to Ravena-Coeymans after leaving the Ark. We have no record of where the “two mosquitoes” went after having escaped being swatted.

A Pleasant Anecdote

While I photographing one of the signs, a St Patrick’s parishioner was approaching the church to attend a meeting, and stopped to chat when she observed me taking the photographs. She commented how interesting the signs were and how they got your attention. I responded very bluntly that they were not interesting; they were a disgrace and were demeaning to the sacred place they were disgracing. I did agree that they got your attention but for the wrong reasons. I admitted to her that I was taking the photo not because I found them attractive, funny or pithy but because they got my interest, and that was not good.

The parishioner was very interested in what we had to say and very gracious, too. We discussed a number problems with the Church, the parish, and local politics. All in all, it was a positive exchange that started on a negative footing.

Shows you that there are still some good, sensible people in the Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk community; all too few, though.

Contrary to what you have been told or led to believe, dear readers, churches are not where God lives [Thank God!], that is, churches are not God’s personal primary residence, they are sacred spaces where we can find safe, quiet space to reflect, meditate, be still, or engage in a conversation with the Divine, a practice what we call prayer, but have forgotten – or never knew how to do. Nowadays most conversations with God turn out to be like conversations with those twits exercising their thumbs on an electronic device; a meeting where God’s trying to reveal himself to the twit who’s functioning with half a hemisphere, wondering whose reflection it is in the smartphone screen.

Repurposing Our Churches

When I hear of closure of churches, merging of congregations, sale of church property, conversions of churches to art galleries, restaurants, even private residences, I feel a cold shudder. These churches have become like dinosaurs; they were once living, awesome organisms, and they thrived and nurtured similar life but at some time long ago they became sick, languished and died. Now all we have left of them are lumps of rock we gawk at in museums or use as paperweights in our studies. So, too, many of our former sacred spaces are now secular spaces where the inhabiting materialist-consumerists worship their new idols: mega-flat screens, surround sound, a nymph, and a bottle. Happy worshipping!

We’ve replaced God there too with some idol like money, sex, a car, or a pop star

So where has God gone once evicted? God’s where he’s always been: in the dark silent depths of our hearts, unless we’ve replaced God there too with some idol like money, sex, a car, a political figure or a pop star. Yes, Idolaters of Ubiquitous White Noise and Distractions, the Ultimate Truth still lies hidden in that wet, fertile, darkness deep within a human being (No, not a vagina!) but nowadays who among you Vessels of Clay with your stymied white-cane spirituality would dare explore the silence within, when there’s so much to do in the world? Why would anyone want to become acquainted with their true self when they can invent another, more pleasant, acceptable self and one that you can transform it at any time using a convenient app? Who will know? You will. But you don’t care because you’ve been diving down that slippery slope for so long you wouldn’t know your true self if you tripped over it!

In my meanderings I spend time in churches, at meetings and conferences, on Internet forums, at monasteries, interacting with others in a variety of settings. I note the anxiety and the vulnerability that cripples so many people; I note their white-cane spirituality, blindly pursuing some sort of agenda-seeking-to-become-a-religion, a tool for a virtual life; they have no real life. I listen to and become offended by the ignorance and narcissism of those claiming to be called to a vocation, as clergy, as lay religious, as lay ministers in churches, congregations, parishes; I frequently observe the infantile fascination of the unwashed when, in a strange ecstasy of voyeurism, they rub shoulders with monks, priests, nuns, or spiritual leaders, and they grin idiotically as if caught in an act of masturbation. “Hee, hee! Look at me!” Narcissism, too, is a form of idolatry. I have to wonder whether the gawkers or the gawkees actually realize the pitiable dynamic going on. It’s rather like the voyeurism of social media but worse. Worse because the so-called spiritual leaders are actually enjoying the worship, and the egos soar – and the wound deepens and festers, poisoning the entire mystical body.

Starving?
Tail’s great!

And like starving rats will go for anything that smacks of survival…

If churches and faith communities are hemorrhaging members, the religious vocations are dwindling into membership cachexia. And like starving rats will go for anything that smacks of survival. For several decades now, the materialist consumerism and the dumbing down of society has left the message of higher truths and spirituality to languish in the shadow of anti-human propaganda, corporate greed, political narcissism, social confusion, despair and anxiety. Fear of loss is the underlying message everywhere we look. That fear is nourished by the messages we receive of time running out for something, anything, everything; fear the terror threat, fear the coming rain or snow showers, fear the threat represented by the guy next door, fear the North Koreans, fear the Russians, fear the illegals. What we need to fear is the false teaching in the poor preaching, we need to fear the pulpit politics, we need to fear the bigoted perp patrols.

Stuck somewhere in a learning curve…

The only religion that’s growing these days is Islam and our response is to demonize it

We are stuck somewhere in a learning curve. But where? We need to learn to fear our own demise and ignorance thanks to the conflicting and contradicting messages we receive from the media, the poor performance of our education institutions, and the dishonesty and corruption of our political system. Add to that the failure of our Judeo-Christian religious institutions to teach correct doctrine and dogma, and to provide effective preaching in support of implementing doctrine and dogma into our day-to-day lives in furtherance of “happiness” and a “good end.” And it’s no wonder people are despairing and anxious. The only religion that’s growing these days is Islam and our response is to demonize it as a bunch of whacko terrorists. Doesn’t anyone see where this is leading? Why can’t religious institutions join together to combat the capitalist propaganda drowning us in a sea of lies and hate? But then, when I was a kid it was the Roman Catholics and Protestants killing each other. Only the bigotry and creeds have remained the same; only the faces have changed.

Cultural and political institutions our religious and faith institutions are appealing to the lowest common denominator

Failing religious institutions and religious organizations and institutions are desperately prostituting themselves in a vain attempt simply to survive. And like our cultural and political institutions our religious and faith institutions are appealing to the lowest common denominator in the attempt to get what they can and run with it. It’s not working, people, that’s why you see so many storefront and strip mall micro-churches flooding into the vacuum left by mainstream institutions. Problem is this: the storefront and strip mall micros are just as bad as the movie-theatre or stadium megachurches, because they create their own ideologies, agendas, idolatries and there are plenty of sheeple to participate because they don’t know anything better. Thanks Vatican II and interfaith dialogue, ecumenism. Lights, cameras, action! Worship!

I can speak from personal experience, scholarship, and professional activity with various faith traditions and communities, religious organizations and institutions, and educational institutions. As a writer, editor, researcher, and educator I vet my facts.

So where does an institution in decline turn in the desperate attempt to survive a couple of more years? St Patricks is prepping, even in the absence of its pastor for several weeks, for the celebration of the church’s centennial. 100 years is not a very long time in Church terms but it’s a start. The nagging question is how long does it still have before it’s converted into another empty building on Ravena-Coeymans’ growing list of vacancies. [Editor’s note: St Patricks have already sold off a number of real estate parcels, some of which were sold to RCS school board president, James Latter, the same James Latter who works for the Saudi Arabian-owned Sabic corporation, the same corporation who got recommendations for tax breaks from the RCS school district.] Maybe Mr VanDerveer’s off attending job interviews, since the parishioners in the Roman Catholic Diocese of Albany are usually the last to know when their church is closing.

When you can’t attract young men to the priesthood you have to attract old men to the diaconate

Like the consumer society they operate in, churches like St Patrick’s are compelled to sacrifice quality for quantity. For example, the Roman Catholic Diocese of Albany reports in a recent issue of Sheaf, the official gazette of St Bernard’s School of Ministry and Theology, the Albany Roman Catholic Diocese reports “200 deacons and growing.” When you can’t attract young men to the priesthood you have to attract old men to the diaconate. Numbers not quality count; that’s why the permanent diaconate was revived by the Roman Catholic Church in the 60s to stem the decline in seminary admissions; in many dioceses the diaconate has become a boy’s club, a church country club, an organization of narcisistic logrollers. “My dad the deacon.” “My son the deacon.” “My wife, Mrs Deacon!”

Deacon Chic Coming Soon to Your Parish!
You have your church band, liturgical dancing, now you can have liturgical strippers!
Don’t miss the Trinitarian Trio of Trollops!

The Episcopal church has been ordaining “women” for decades; many (mostly gender ambiguous specimens) in the RC church are advocating ordaining women deacons and the reasonable expected consequence of this slippery slope is women priests! When does this comedy of errors, this farce stop? [Editor’s note: For those of our readers with limited vocabularies, a “slippery slope” is a comedy of errors is a related series of amusing or farcical events involving a series of awkward missteps or other mistakes.]

Clergy or Special Ed Class or LGBT Rejects?

There is a big problem with erroneous teaching and that leads to gross stupidity and poor public image. Take for instance the Church’s stand on abortion and other issues. The corrupt and long discredited practice of prayer and what the faithful could expect from prayer as espoused by a greedy medieval Church led not only to Martin Luther’s confrontation and the ultimate schism but also to the Counter-Reformation, and later to many, many scandals. They still haven’t learned.

Erroneous teaching and that leads to gross stupidity and poor public image

OK. But can someone tell me how this works? How about you, Father?

Let’s face the facts: The Church may be facing annihilation over the longer term if it doesn’t (1) come up with some sort of recruitment scheme for the long-term future of the priesthood, and (2) come up with some sort of outside “support for its mission,” which translates into people who are able and willing to give in support of the Church in general and of their local faith community before it has to selling off more acreage. The old priests and nuns committed their lives and fortunes to the faith community; they’re gone now and so are their legacies. A liberal, liberation theology (= socialist)  tainted Jesuit pope is not going to solve the problem; in fact, he stands to worsen it. Jesuits don’t have a very good record in Rome; Jesuit popes have an even worse record..

And this is how it’s gonna be!

One of the real problems being faced by the Church and by the faithful is that they are learning impaired. Change is not measured in years in the Church but in centuries. While the men in the Vatican are swilling good wine and dining in gardens al fresco, the American Church is making its own rules. Everyone seems to be caught up in a dead man spiral, stuck somewhere in an ecclesiological learning curve. But no one seems to be certain where they’re stuck.

Still in the learning curve. But where?

So that’s where we stand locally, and regionally. Ravena is just an example, a stereotype, and not the main culprit; Ravena is a symptom, we have to look for the ecclesiological pathology elsewhere. Meanwhile, the stupid signs aren’t helping.

The Church at Work.
Did you find the problem yet?

Coeymanazi Building Inspector Conrad: Good fences make good neighbors! More Laws Better…

Local News Is Fast Becoming Scarce  If Not Ultra-Commonplace. A Sure Sign that The Times Useless and Its Step-cousin, the Ravena News Herald are Scandal-Starved.

boys on fenceJudging from the front page of the Ravena News Herald and from the items–they’re not stories, actually, nor are they professional journalism, by the way–the local-bulletin-board-wannabe-newspaper is fast becoming advertisements in disguise  while continuing as a local propaganda rag. (Example: “Free” kempo karate demos at library for children; parents will pay after the kids get a taste. Can’t a library just be a library anymore?) Just look at the latest edition of the Ravena News Herald to see what we mean.

In a front-page piece on the “Scouts”  meeting in the Roman Catholic Church of St Patrick in Ravena, we read that

“…dozens of community members gathered at St. Patrick’s Church in Ravena to witness the Cub and Boy Scouts of Troop 1067 reaffirm their commitment to reverence, “to be reverent toward God, faithful in his [Ed. note: God’s?] religious duties and to respect the beliefs of others” in accordance with the law of the Scout put forth by the Boy Scouts of America.”

That bit of scurrilous reporting which, if you read the news outside of Ravena-Coeymans, is the epitome of misinformation and hypocrisy, given the BSA’s refusal to stop being a pillar of discrimination, exclusion and hate, where even the federal government has long ago legislated against such practices. I think it’s the part about to “respect the beliefs of others,” that got my attention. But more on that some other time.

But the most glaring first-page gaffe is the caption under the large photo on the first page. (Can you find it?) More about this later on.

This was followed by a rather lengthy “prayer” read by Brian Searles, BSA troop master, which runs more than 144 words and takes up 2/3 of the first page text. That “prayer” runs along the lines of the Prayer of St Francis of Assisi that starts, “Lord, make me an instrument of your peace…”

“Dear Lord, bless all those everywhere who contribute to shape the hearts, minds and bodies of young people. Let us remember what they have taught and apply it daily.”

I have some serious questions as to the “what they have been taught,” and if the scout leader is referring to the explicit policy of discrimination and hate espoused, defended, and ipso factotaught” by the Boy Scouts of America espouse with regard to certain groups. Searles continues:

“When facing deceit and dishonesty, let us be trustworthy. If we see hypocrisy and faithlessness, let us be loyal. Where disregard for others and where materialism prevails, let us be helpful. In an atmosphere of ill manner, let us be courteous. Where some measure manliness in brutality and crudeness, let us be kind. Though law-breaking and rule-scoffing are common, let us be obedient. While others grumble and grouch, let us be cheerful. In an environment blighted by waste and extravagance, let us be thrifty. When confronted with danger and temptation, let us be brave. As we see filth and pollution everywhere, let us be clean. While witnessing impiety and irreligion, let us remember to be reverent. In short, in a world that has for generation after generation lamented the lack of good examples, let us Scouts stand out, grow up and be real adults.”

Clumsy as Mr Searles plagiarized prayer might be, his complaints are quite clear–we all know what he’s talking about, don’t we?

Actually, had Mr Searles simply read the Prayer of St Francis, maybe someone in the group would have more completely appreciated the intended prayerfulness of the moment and would have actually attempted to live the admonitions promoted by the holy example of the saint, and centuries later distilled shortly before the First World War into the now popular and familiar verses. (To read and download a copy of the Franciscan Peace Prayer I’ve prepared, click this link: The Story Behind the Peace Prayer of St Francis )

It’s rather ironic, too, that these lofty confessions of what our society and community have come to represent: “deceit and dishonesty,” hypocrisy and faithlessness,” “disregard for others,” “materialism,” “ill manner” ( must admit, I’m at a loss to really understand what that is supposed to mean), “manliness in brutality and crudeness,” “law-breaking and rule-scoffing,” where our neighbors “grumble and grouch,” and in a culture that confronts us daily with “danger and temptation,” where we find “filth and pollution everywhere,” and in our very churches we witness “impiety and irreligion” (irreligion is an interesting word meaning hostility towards religion. I don’t think that’s the problem though.), “lack of good examples.” In a word, doesn’t this sound like the routine in this community, in the local schools, in the entire Smalbany  region? The entire country–with few exceptions? And let’s ask ourselves how long the Scouts have been in the RCS district? And where do they go and what do they do if they graduate from our schools, move on from the scouts?

We also read in that same issue of the Ravena News Herald that–like Ravena-Coeymans–there’s no news in New Baltimore. We say this because on page 4 (it’s interesting to note that in the News Herald, page 2 reports on “Around the Town” news from Albany, Vorheesville, Rotterdam (?!?), under the heading “New Baltimore,” we read that the ailing, lonely, only church left in New Baltimore is hosting a food and fellowship luncheon. We then turn to page 9 of that same issue and read an exact duplicate of the article. Nice editing. But my point is this: Has New Baltimore descended, deteriorated to such an extent that there’s nothing better to report than to repeat an announcement of a church luncheon?!?

RCS residents pay a buck to read that sort of amateurish, poorly written, unnewsworthy stuff

So we finally come to the stuff of our title, “Coeymanazi Building Inspector Conrad: Good fences make good neighbors?” How does that fit in with the Ravena News Herald and its misshapen and moronic reporting? Read on…

R. Frost (1874-1963)Probably Turning in his Grave!

R. Frost (1874-1963)
Probably Turning in his Grave!

In a misinformative and pitifully distorted version of both American literature and reality, idiot reporter Bryan Rowzee, in the front-age item, “Coeymans. Keeping Coeymans on the map,” Rowzee starts off his item with a quote from Robert Frost’s memorable poem, Mending Wall. But in true News Herald Fashion, Rowzee misinterprets and so falsifies to his readers the meaning of the poem, and does so by taking one familiar line out of the context of the whole poem, similar to what’s done business as usual in the RCS community.

For starters, the poem is a lament of fences, how walls and fences are something that are unnatural:

Something there is that doesn’t love a wall,
That sends the frozen-ground-swell under it,
And spills the upper boulders in the sun;
And makes gaps even two can pass abreast.

And throughout the poem Frost questions the necessity for fences and even characterizes the neighbor who builds the fence (in the poem a stone wall) as being

…like an old-stone savage armed.
He moves in darkness

In fact, Mr Rowzee, Frost’s poem has nothing good to say about walls or fences; in fact, the entire poem is a statement against walls and fences! Mr, Frost, describes his neighbor likening him to a menacing caveman as he puts a rock into the wall, and repeats, “Good fences makes good neighbors.” So, either Mr Rowzee is trying to be cute and is using the Frost quote in total ignorance of what the poem actually says or, Mr Rowzee is being sneaky and using the quote to ridicule Larry Conrad in the article. Difficult to say unless you read the item in the News Herald, and until you reach the paragraph

“Conrad said the town loves growth and wants growth but needs growth that follows the laws created to help the whole community. He said he hopes that this business and others will benefit from clearer zoning maps and believes this may lessen misunderstandings and strained relationships between community members and town officials.”

Mr Conrad has a motley history of contradictions and obstruction; he’s not much different from any other small-minded, small-town, power-drunk petty official. Of course, Mr Conrad loves walls and fences, they’re unnatural and intended to isolate and obstruct. He’s been building unethical walls in the Coeymans community  for years and has gotten very good at it.

Moreover, there’s nothing small-minded, small-town, power-drunk petty officials like more than passing laws that make them appear more powerful and make their jobs more secure, while at the same time make everyone else’s lives more complicated, and unpleasant, increase the already insufferable red tape and corruption in the area, and offer more opportunities for the small-minded, small-town, power-drunk petty official to do “favors” for special people.

Like so many in the Ravena-Coeymans élite, Conrad talks out of both sides of his face

two-facedYes, Mr Larry Conrad, Coeymans Building Inspector, does come to us with a long history and a mighty load of dirty laundry in his baggage. The are some very unsavory legends about the connections between Larry Conrad and Bobo-cop Gerald “Jerry Dirty-Hands” Deluca, the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation (Deluca claims to be a consultant with the DEC. Consulting on what?), and a tract of land on Route 9w, a certain family of lawyers in Ravena (did I say “Biscone“?  Oops!), and an alleged shady deal made to bamboozle an elderly couple out of their property for a song. Greed was the motivation, of course. And the lawyer (did I say “Biscone” again?  Oops!), made it all seem legal. But when the deal collapsed and the property was sold to a local family for a fair price, the retaliation began! And who was at the center of the “legal” harassment and retaliation? Why do you need to ask? Mr Larry Conrad.

Like so many in the Ravena-Coeymans élite, George Dardiani (violates the Code of Judicial Ethics), Ravena mayor John Bruno (plays loosey-goosey with public money), Cathy Deluca (runs a close second to her double-talking husband and has a teflon surface with her supporters), Michael Biscone, (is he village attorney or does he just bill the village? Whatever he is, he’s great at covering some apparent real conflicts of interest. We’ll FOIL his invoices for services and the payment vouchers from the village very soon!) and the list could go on and on,  Conrad talks out of both sides of his face, but as a made Coeymanazi, he’s loyal to the godfathers and to his protectors.

So you can really understand, given Conrad’s associations, history, cronies, and the mob he hangs out with, we take a very close look at statements like “the town … wants growth but needs growth that follows the laws created to help the whole community. He said he hopes that this business and others will benefit from clearer zoning maps and believes this may lessen misunderstandings and strained relationships between community members and town officials.”

Conrad apparently believes that more laws controlling what residents and neighbors do and “help the community,” and that more laws “will lessen misunderstandings and strained relationships between community members and town officials.” Which side of his mouth is this coming from, I ask?

Mr Conrad, the only way that misunderstandings and strained relationships between community members and village/town officials can be lessened is not by creating more laws but by streamlining the administration. This may very well entail eliminating the village of Ravena and consolidating it with the hamlet of Coeymans under one single administration, an administration that will first of all put an end to the corruption and coercion that has hallmarked the Ravena-Coeymans system of oppression for decades! It will involve elimination of the money pit and den of thugs we popularly call the Coeymans Police Department and purging the crooks and dumbos calling themselves law enforcement! Replacing the Coeymans Police Department with a professionally trained corps of law enforcement like the Albany County Sheriff’s team would be the wisest move ever for this community.

Before you create new laws or bring in new systems, Mr Conrad, there’s a hell of a lot of healing that has to be done to “lessen misunderstandings and strained relationships between community members and town officials.”

The Ravena-Coeymans community has been hemorrhaging small businesses while being poisoned by the large corporations and oppressed by the special-interests in and around Albany that are feeding and fostering the small-minded, small-town, power-drunk petty officials who all believe they have their positions for life and can hand them over to their designated heirs.  And the Conrad-Biscone-Deluca-Bruno-Persico cliques have all but silenced the democratic process in the town of Coeymans. Clean out village and town hall completely and maybe the fresher air in the town of Coeymans will attract business-health conscious entrepreneurs. To date all that the village of Ravena and the town of Coeymans have attracted are corpse flies feeding on the dead and dying local economy. What businesses are left standing after the Conrad Crew and the Coeymanazis have finished are disillutioned, angry, and suspicious of anything that comes out of the village and town halls!

Larry Conrad hasn’t a clue what he’s talking about! Before you create new laws or bring in new systems, Mr Conrad, there’s a hell of a lot of healing that has to be done to “lessen misunderstandings and strained relationships between community members and town officials.” The TRUST and CONFIDENCE in local government has to be re-established after decades of a local corrupt machine of self-interests and special interests have made this entire community into a community of paranoid recluses! Thank the  Brunos, the Biscones, the Delucas, the Warners, the Darlingtons, the Teresis, the Neris, the Rotellos, the Persicos, and Yes! the Conrads of the area, and their Coeymanazi minions.

Rather than Building Fences or Proselytizing that “Good Fences Make Good Neighbors” or that Laws Lessen Misunderstanding and Heal Strained Relationships, the News Herald and the Scouts Should be Proactively Tearing Down Fences and Building Community in spite of the Hypocrites, Whether Religious, Social, or Political Hypocrites!

The Moment of Truth is NOW!Make Positive Changes Now. Tweak Later.

The Moment of Truth is NOW!
Make Positive Changes Now. Tweak Later.

So back to page 1 of the Ravena News Herald. We can start by not asking God to do what we ourselves are very capable of doing ourselves if we simply follow the ethical principles taught by the Gospels and especially the Beatitudes (Sermon on the Mount). If you’ve forgotten what they are, find a Bible and read them again, if you ever have read them. The entire law condenses down to, “Love God totally and love your neighbor as you love yourself!”

Careful How You "Pray"!

Careful How You “Pray”!

Misusing prayer to make a political appeal to empty hearts is a sacrilege and involving God in that conspiracy is blasphemy! In the precincts of a Roman Catholic sacred space used for secular purposes, the prayer should either not have been done or the real experts in screwing up prayer should have been invited to invoke the petition to the divine: either the pastor of the Roman Catholic Church of St Patrick or the bishop’s minion, the deacon at St Patrick’s. At least the screwed up prayer would have been screwed up professionally. But to have such a “prayer” come from the lips of a representative of an organization that conspicuously and publicly discriminates and offends the dignity of members of the community is an affront to fair play and justice.

But certainly, the merit that can be taken from the so-called prayer is the enumeration of the darkness that the speaker finds in the community, society, and the world. But just publicly displaying awareness of those evils, evils that are right outside our doors, is not enough. Solutions are needed but no solutions are offered. That doesn’t work for me at all.

The newspapers at one time played an important educational role–they now churn out chum, crap!

The public media have lost all sense of dignity and continue to fail in their obligations to the people of our communities. Where the public media, the newspapers, played an important role of sharing good information while playing fair, and demanding quality in the information they send out to the public–yes, the newspapers at one time played an important educational role–they now churn out chum, crap! The conspicuous cover photo accompanying the article, “Scouts reaffirm their faith in God in annual service,” regrettably demonstrates this point. In the caption we read: “Weblos of Pack 1067 illustrate the deadline sin of gluttony in a skit at the Scouts Own Service on Sunday.” What is a “deadline sin”? Doesn’t the editor know gluttony (actually intemperance in moral theological terms)  is a “deadly sin“? Shame on you!

Poor editing, poor attention to detail, poor reporting: No news in New Baltimore. Church luncheon announced instead and in two places. Shame on you News Herald and New Baltimore!

But giving Rowzee the benefit of doubt, maybe he was doing both tongue-in-cheek.

And again, the glaring ignorance of Mr Bryan Rowzee and his pitiful misrepresentation of a renowned American poet laureate’s poem, Mending Wall, reveals the deplorable level of teaching the humanities, even important American literature. Rowzee’s gaffe reveals two things at least: the carelessness and indifference of the print media in terms of accuracy and reliability of facts, even well-established facts, and the failure of our education system in teaching our American literary heritage to such an abominable degree that an allegedly “qualified” journalist (a term used very loosely, indeed, in this discussion), one whose prose is made public as if it were credible, doesn’t have an inkling of understanding of what he’s writing about. If Mr Rowzee knew anything of what he was writing about he would have used the line from the Robert Frost poem correctly, and Rowzee would certainly have known better than to have printed the Conrad quote. But giving Rowzee the benefit of doubt, maybe he was doing both tongue-in-cheek. We can only guess!

Community is Fed Up with Constant Rehashing of Krzykowski Story

Coeymans Town Board Member Peter Masti Comments “Privately” in Ravena News Herald

fed up pissed off express

The abuse of freedom of expression has reached a high point in this district when a Coeymans town board member, Mr Peter E. Masti, an elected official in this town, has to come out publicly and remind this community that the voters, when they speak through their votes, speak in one voice.

Jackass Journalism

Jackass Journalism
News Herald Trademark

In the Ravena News Herald (January 17, 2013, page 3) writer Melanie Lekocevic rehashes the already stale news of Mr Rodney Krzykowski and his exercise of his Constitutional rights. The story, already almost a year since the Albany Times Union picked up on it through the local Coeymanazis, is ancient history–ironically it appeared alongside the column, “News from the Past“. But apparently the News Herald found it newsworthy and printed it. Well, we all know that the Ravena News Herald, like the Albany Times Union specializes in Jackass Journalism, but we did expect that the News Herald would be a bit more sensitive and less indifferent to the community it allegedly serves!

Well, in that same rag, the Ravena News Herald (January 24, 2013, page 10), Coeymans town board member Peter E. Masti, comes out in a letter to the editor saying, “It is sad to see the matter being brought up again.” Yes, Mr Masti, it is “sad.”

Mr Masti correctly observes that the rehashing over and over again of this issue “gives the town of Coeymans another black eye.” And notes further that “[t]he fact of the matter had to have been known…before he was elected, if anyone sought to find out.” Again, Mr Masti, you are right on target.

Mr Masti raises the point that this has gone far beyone “a personal feud,” and although Matt Miller is taking advantage of his right, Mr Masti questions whether it is “helping out the school and the town?” Mr Masti writes that it is not and is adversely affecting this community and adds: “All the publicity only hurts a lot of innocent people.

Mr Masti, himself and elected official on the town board of Coeymans, he correctly observes that “with with every election good or bad results are due to the people who vote or fail to vote…that is how America works.”

We agree 101% with Mr Masti’s reasoning and wisdom. We, too, feel that Mr Matthew J. Miller’s ill-thought scheme to pursue his personal agenda and ignite a personal feud brought ridicule and scandal to this community. Miller’s feud and personal vendetta’s were open and undisguised; they couldn’t possibly be mistaken for community spirited action.

Come Up for Air, Matt

Come Up for Air, Matt

We would go further to say that far from Mr Masti’s words of wisdom, Matthew Miller’s example is very poor indeed and reflects only his lack of character and his ulterior motives of self-enrichment, egomania, and his clear loyalty to New York State Teachers United, his union, and his disregard, insensitivity and indifference to what matters in this community. Matthew Miller’s message to this community is clear: Miller, Tavia Rauch, and the so-called “Unidentified Resident” a.k.a. “Cowardly Rat Turd”, don’t give a rat’s butt about the voice of the community, the democratic process, the voters. Miller’s conduct is purely selfish and motivated by a damaged ego and loss of an ill-gotten paid position that was eliminated in the community’s best interests.

Matthew Miller, although he does claim to be an atheist, as a biology teacher, even an atheistic one, can and should be aware that community, whether human or otherwise, means interrelatedness. As Martin Luther King, Jr. famously and prophetically argued, “We are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied into a single garment of destiny. Whatever affects one directly affects all indirectly.”  Those are wise words that we should all heed and heed well!

Mr Krzykowski was elected by the RCS district and community, he was not appointed by Matthew Miller. Mr Krzykowski should be allowed to complete his term of office and to do the work he was elected to do without these stupid distractions. If and when Mr Krzykowski decides to run again in this outrageously ungrateful district, the voters will decide, not Matthew Miller, NYSUT’s local lackey.

Times Union Doesn’t Like My Comments…

Warning: If you are a student or a minor, please leave this blog now.

The Times Union Blog Page On The RCS Vote Apparently Doesn’t Like My Comments, While Printing Every Perverse Sort Of Blather Possible, The Vast Majority Of Which Has Nothing To Do With The Topic, And Simply Is Mutual Bloodying Exchanges Between Disembodied Misfits

So the Times Useless doesn’t like what I have to say. Who gives a flying waffle, anyway! I even wonder why I bothered to share anything with that putrid rag in the first instance. But I did…Mea culpa, mea maxima culpa! So I’m a candidate for the DumbAss Award (that reminds me: We are awarding that this week…stay tuned!).

The Times Useless’ Star Reporter

With the daily numbers on this blog–three days straight we’ve topped the all-time single-day Readers figures and are now more than 1000 readers a day! On Tuesday, May 15th, more than 1450 readers visited the Smalbany blog. Thank you very much! The Times Useless site had less than 90 at the time, and most of those by a handful of sadomasochists pleasuring one another with back-and-forth parrying, inflicting minor mental lacerations so the actual number was probably 1/4 or even 1/5 of that 90, probably a maximum of 15 or 16 actual individuals, assuming they didn’t change their screen names multiple times, which is something that happens a lot.

Typical Times Useless Commentor

You’re probably seething to know what I wrote that the Times Useless found objectionable and not on a par with the overall Neanderthal-quality of the other contributors? Far be it from me to keep you drooling…here are my comments:

After reading some of these comments I occurs to me that they are very likely authored by a group of adolescents from the RCS high school who had attempted to pose as adults and comment on the Smalbany blog. The immaturity shows through as does almost identical wording of some of the comments; identical to comments that were disallowed on the Smalbany blog and TRASHED.  (They’ve obviously found a new home on the Times Useless blog.) Despite numerous warnings not to visit the blog and especially NOT to leave comments, they have tried every name in the book to get around it but their IP addresses give them away every time. Two arch delinquents are Timothy HOUGHTALING and Seamus MOONEY…two obnoxius little worms with egos bigger that the words they misuse. Here “JustTheFacts” would be a prime candidate for one of the RCS unparented, unschooled delinquent children.

Depite numerous warnings and requests to their principal Brian Bailey to intervene and help them to avoid a misdemeanor harassment charge, and to get their parents involved in parenting these two future criminals, they continue to ignore the warnings.

They repeatedly refer to idiotic social media sites for their facts and continue to disseminate their idiotic drivel and speculations. There’s an entire page dedicated to their initial attacks in which one of the gang, some Karen Rachael, even states that “their teachers were there laughing” while they were making their foul comments on the blog. That said it all for me regarding the RCS teachers and their teachers association.

You can read some of the school children’s comments at What Your Kids Were Doing in School at RCS Today… http://wp.me/p2jPFe-eX and Parents: Do You Know Where Your Children Are? at http://wp.me/p2jPFe-ey.

You know when a brainless adolescent is writing when you see names named and they can’t possibly be sure. Moreover, their sources are reminiscent of the addled ravings of one Joan Ross, an Albany transplant bored-as-hell-wannabe-sophisticate of New Baltimore, who out of the one side of her face would recruit her New Baltimore neighbors for her activist causes and then, after a drink or two, delight in demeaning them and calling them “newbaltimorons.” Same perverse logic: Please accept me, if you don’t I’ll try to destroy you. Purest narcissism.

Thank you. Please have a look at those two pages and compare with some of them here. You won’t be disappointed.

We Asked…You Responded: Thank You!

After I submitted that one, I submitted another once I read this comment:

89.No. 86 post really sums this up best! Not too late to get out and VOTE YES!! Don’t let these thugs scare you off! Stand up for your community. Your vote is the best way to get your voice heard. The other good way is to note which businesses are connected to this no-vote-campaign being waged by the [redacted]. Then vote with your checkbook and boycott! Comment by  Sanity — May 15th, 2012 @ 6:20 pm

“Thugs,” indeed! If you’ve read my article on the Pieter B. Coeymans PTO and the group of Coeymanazis taking aim on constitutional dissent, freedom of speech and opinion, and bullying the businesses who DARE to have an opinion (Thank you RJ DEsposito, Marlene McTigue, Sarah Berchtold Engel (a subject for NYSED moral conduct complaint), Donna Leput Hommel, and the Pieter B. Coeymans PTO FaceBook gang), you’ll  know the mentality of that bunch. But the commentor mentions “vote with your checkbook and boycott!”  Now that’s a reall pro-business, pro-community bit of advice, isn’t it? Real AMERICAN, too, if you have an opinion, we’ll punish you! The incarnation of the Pieter B. Coeymans PTO slogan, ““We are the PTO of Pieter B. Coeymans Elementary, A place to learn and grow.” Now…easy does it…get that foot into your mouth…you’re doing fine… (I know it’s hard to see what you’re doing when you have your head so far up your ass!)

So, after seeing that and even before my first comment was apparently trashed, I submitted a comment in response to a previous commentor who suggested that “This needs to be investigated,” referring to his/her drug-induced delusions (ironically this very same commentor uses the handle “Sanity,” that has to be the poor soul’s most severe delusion!).

My comment reads:

Yes! I agree. It does need investigating DESPERATELY. Especially the criminals who are deceiving the public in the secret meetings and the biased news media; or by not publishing the necessary facts; the criminals who are [fired by other departments and], Coeymans police officer McKenna, hired to the Coeymans Police Department by Gregory Darlington despite being found guilty of 9 counts of misconduct, lying to and misleading his supevisors, and fired by the Albany Police Department; the Coeymanazi Jerry Deluca (Deluca-Darlington’s Darling), who harasses women candidates and intimidates residents, the adulterer who was caught in flagrante delicto and now is a reader and a churchgoer at Saint Patrick’s RC in Ravena (Sundays only! Any other day he’s a Coeymanazi and horndog);  the ex-cops in judge’s robes using ex-cop tactics like Harold Warner (a person-of-interest to the New York State Commission on Judicial Conduct; can’t seem to shake the cop role); the self-avowed atheist teacher like Matt Miller at the RCS High School (a subject for NYSED moral conduct complaint); the breaches of confidentiality and abuse of special ed children by James Latter, a BoE member whose wife, Amanda Latter,  teaches math at the RCS Middle School, the idiotic judge who broadcasts prejudice and bias on his front lawn like George Dardiani (another person-of-interest to the NYS CJC), the teachers who abuse their students by recruiting them to advocate for special interest campaigns like the RCS Teachers Association (Matt Miller), the recruitment of bully gangs at the RCS High School by teachers (a subject for NYSED moral conduct complaint), the numerous students in the RCS schools who have had to be taken out because of bullying and home tutored at taxpayer expense. Lies? Sorry, but all of this comes straight from publicly available documents and resources. For example the Supplemental Memorandum of Agreement forced on the RCS BoE by the special-interest (teachers union) majority (teachers and teachers spouses, still on today’s ballot + 2) that was never published because it would have gotten the teachers union lynched! Need more, visit the Smalbany blog!

Need to know about the cyberbullying etc. visit A Little History Lesson on that same blog. There’s nothing hidden on that blog, friends. It’s all out in the open and all verifiable.

Links, documents, resources, you name it, we provide it on the Smalbany blog! So where are these ignorant TU  liars getting their material that they’re posting. It’s obvious, RCS Central School District does not offer a reading course, obviously; if they have visited the Smalbany blog, it’s simply to look at the pretty pictures!

So far only 4 visitors to this TU site have visted the Smalbany blog. Why would that be? more than 90 comments here, quite a few speculating on who the blogger is etc. but out of those 90 only 4 have moved their asses to see for themselves. Pitiful but predictable.

After that comment disappeared from the blog…the Times Useless is probably going to take that information and do some stories, taking credit for the research. I wouldn’t put it past them!

It’s getting pretty obvious that when Beavis and Butthead don’t have anything better to go on, they pick a name, any name, rip it to shreds and then find another. No issues, just factoids and names. No constructive suggestions, just factoids and names.

Say, for instance, you feel that something is wrong or fact is being misrepresented. Do you leave a comment at the source? Hell no! Why do that? You might get an answer to your question. It’s far better to scoot around and attack from the rear, right. Then you’re sure of getting your rocks off with a sucker punch! That’s how things are done by the RCS mob…from behind!

The Ol’ RCS Sucker Punch
They Like It From Behind

What I find particularly symptomatic and idiotic is that the topic of this site is the RCS CSD 2012-2013 school budget vote and other budget items, plus the BoE elections but what you people have been doing is mauling one another, picking on anyone who has the balls to come out and express themselves, and very pitifully few of you have any hard facts. You’re apparently a bunch of turdologists!

What’s even more disgusting is that a few of you have taken aim on individuals whom you feel have such immense power that they are the only ones with the leadership ability who will move the NO! side to defeat the budget! Do you really think that by slandering, libeling a couple of individuals you’ll make your point. The only thing that will defeat one side or the other is the people, the vote! Are you that ignorant of the issues and the real problems in the RCS district and the town of Coeymans that you need to pick easy targets because your atrophied inbred brains can’t handle the bigger issues. You need physical solid targets because you can’t handle the abstract! Or can it be that you are so desperate and so full of anxiety you think you’ve been slighted and need to retaliate, or that you’re so frightened you need to get the first shot, or that you’re next on the exposed list? Good Lord, do you need counseling! If only self-esteem came in a bottle; I’d have a market in the RCS district that would make me superrich overnight!

And what can we read in all of these idiotic handles and fake names. Doesn’t that in itself speak volumes?

So some of you fantasize that you  have done the world a real public service, have you, by unveiling the identity of the mystery blogger of RCS. OK. So you [think] you know who Fides qua Creditur is? That means that this was written by me, FqC; you claim you know who that is so I’m really not using a pseudonym; I’ve been outed. Are you going to come out now, too?

Peace

So, there you have it! I hope I didn’t prematurely give away the coming issues to be prosecuted in the near future but if I did, well, c’est la vie; c’est la guerre!…since this writing the 2012-13 school budget has passed so there might still be a foreign language curriculum at the RCS high school…so I won’t translate the French 😉

Your’s Truly,
The Editor

The Residents of the Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk and the New Baltimore Community and School District Deserve Much Better Than They’re Getting.  The Only Description of the Situation that Comes to Mind is:

The Scandal is Everywhere!

This Blog, with the Cooperation and Collaboration of Many Residents has Recently Exposed the Snow Job and the Finagling that’s Been Going On and the Deceitful, Misinformation That’s Been Published and Circulated in Recent Weeks in Public Statements Made by the Teachers Association and in Letters to the Editor Written by the Major Perps and Pervs and Published by Needful Pulp Fiction Backwoods Reporters.

We’ve exposed the scandal of immorality in the major fingerpointers in a campaign to drive a fine member of the Board of Education from his elected seat; the very ones pointing the fingers were booted off the Board ostensibly because of their immorality and poor performance. As Matt Miller about his FaceBook promotions and his statements before and after the elections. But sit down when you do it.

We’ve pointed out that those very fingerpointers were the ones who saddled the RCS school district with a swimming pool that is worth as much to this community as a refrigerator is to Eskimos; built of materials that can’t withstand the stresses of blasting in the quarries behind it and so poorly designed it cannot host competions. Ask Jerry Deluca about this! (While you have him cornered you might want to ask him about the Coeymanazis and their secret meetings conspiring to undermine the democratically elected RCS Board of Education!)

We’ve argued against the disproportionate influence of the teachers and teachers association on the RCS Board of Education and how they favor anything the teachers association asks for and obstruct anything that might not be in the teachers’ interests. We’ve argued that teachers, former teaches, and the spouses of teachers need to be booted off the board and now! There has to be a level playing field! The Board must be able to exercise independence and autonomy in making its decisions and that is impossible if special interests have voting power on the board! Ask Schools Superintendant Elizabeth Smith about this.

We’ve pointed out the problems in school sports and the fact that the coaches and assistant coaches may be endangering the players. We’ve pointed out a well-known problem with the aquatics director and his abuse (verbal) of the students–we repeat: a well known fact but he’s still there.Helmet Brain. Traumatic Brain Injury.

We’ve pointed out the questionable practices and concealment well-known in the RCS Sports Association and its code violations and vindictiveness. We’ve pointed out the total lack of transparency in its financial business and other suspect practices. Ask Bill McFerran about this, the financial recordkeeping (if there is any), where the money goes, the tax status of the Association, etc.

We’ve pointed out a number of discrepancies and misleading points in the Superintendant of Schools budget presentation and the impractical notion that a 6.8% increase cannot be sustained by this commuinity and we urge the community to vote down that budget. The contingency budget will keep the RCS districat at the previous year’s levy and even further require $1.5 million in cuts! We provided a list of a number of schools across the state that are biting the bullet and facing the reality that the policy of spending more to get less just doesn’t work nor or ever. The RCS community together with its neighbors in Greene County, in New Baltimore have no other choice than to VOTE NO! on the 2012-13 Budget!

We’ve pointed out the imprudence at this time of expanding the Ravena Public Library; it’s idiotic to consider a move and spending of that magnitude in a time when we need to be pushing AUSTERITY measures. The library board has no answers for such questions as HOW MUCH? WHEN? HOW? And the answers they do have are far from convincing. This is not the time! The library director and the library board must come up with concrete answers to concrete questions. You must not be asked to buy the Brooklyn Bridge (again)!

We are not aware of any figures in terms of library utilization or demographics that could support such a plan. In addition, the library board wants to more than double its space in an age when most libraries are reducing space in response to the trend in digitization and online resources that are replacing print-based newspapers, journals, and books! 1000 books fit easily on a Kindle or Nook but take up hundreds of square feet in a library. In 5 years the trend will only have become more obvious but the library board, to get any money from the state of New York, has to sign a 10-year lease for the new library and that doesn’t include adaptation work costs! It’s idiotic! Vote NO! on that crazy project.

Worse than all of the above is the situation with the teachers and their teachers association. Not only to they bully the Board of Education but Matt Miller, president of the RCS Teachers Association is consistently misleading the voting and taxpaying public to believe that the teachers are dedicated and sacrificing; that they have the students’ interests at heart. We’ve said in the past that they should put their paychecks where their mouths are. What do they do? The offer a LOAN, a half-year “pay freeze,” in response. But here’s the clincher: after the 6 months they get RAISES! Pay increases! It’s a win-win for the teachers. Here’s another fact: the average teacher ( called “instructional staff”) in the RCS district makes more than twice as much ($63,000-70,000 annual salary) as the average non-teacher (non-instructional staff) who makes an average of about $30,000 a year, and the teacher gets several months off every year, gets additonal support for “professional development,” and they still complain that they don’t have enough. Well, we think the taxpayers in this district have had enough. Don’t you?

Student or Teacher? You tell me!

The New Testament (Matthew 7:16)  tells us that we will “Know them by their fruits.” This has come unexpectedly to light in a recent development where a number of RCS high school students left some really nasty comments on this blog. One student actually wrote that her “teachers were there and laughing at the idiocy” of this blog. Since when is honest reporting and presentation of facts to the community and to taxpayers “idiocy.” If you read those comments–we published them on this blog and you can read the comments–you will have to ask yourself “What in hell is going on at that high school.” “What are those teachers doing all day?” “What are they doing with our kids?” You’ll have to read the students’ comments–they’re published on this blog– to understand the seriousness of what’s going on in the schools in your district.

After one of the students went over the top in escalating his abusive conduct, we had to advise him that he would be banned from the blog, that his comments would not be considered, that they would be immediately trashed. In addition, we had to advice the Superintendent of Schools and the School Board of the student’s misconduct. We even had to notify law enforcement of some of the threats the student was making. But that’s what’s going on in the high school. (For more information, read our two posts on the incidents.)

Speaking of the New Testament and Scripture, have you read our post on the RCS teacher who does not repeat the “one nation under God” in the pledge of allegiance and, when asked by his students Why? tells them that he’s an atheist! Ask Matt Miller, president of the RCS teachers association, the teacher, about this one.

Let’s be clear on one thing: We do not find the fact that the students commented or that they feell they have a voice in what’s happening. Commitment and dedication are important. What we are pointing out as a serious defect is that those students were on the blog all day long, from 9 a.m. through to about 3 p.m. and then from about 5 p.m to about 9 p.m. And the language they used and the thoughts they expressed were, well, not quite what you would expect from teenagers talking to and about adults! The language was filthy, disrespectful, arrogant…and “the teachers were there laughing.”

That’s what you need to be looking at. Where is your money going and for what? They can’t spell, they can’t write a sentence, the state report card shows that the RCS district is failing and it’s not because you are stingy with your cash…let’s be real, there’s a far more insidious and serious problem and you might want to start looking at the company your kids are keeping all day long!

And don’t blame the non-teachers on the Board of Education; they’re fighting tooth and nail for you…they have no special interests except an interest in justice and fairness but they’re hobbled too much of the time by the special interests of the teachers who are on the board.

Teachers Association Bullies

Read our report on the Superintendant’s Budget Presentation and read our recommendations and notes on the candidates. One candidate Edward Reville is married to Howard Engel’s (a board member) sister; Engle is a teacher and his wife is a teacher! It’s literally incestuous if you allow Reville on the board or Alice Whalen or re-elect Engel. You might as well make the RCS CSD Board of Education a department of the NYS Teachers Union, the New York State United Teachers (NYSUT)!

You need to seriously look at the postings on this blog. Then you really need to ask some really serious questions about what we are saying and you have to ask the people in charge. But for starters, you need to think realistically and not in terms of an ideal world.

Vote NO! on the Budget. Vote NO! on the Library. Vote NO! on the buses for now. Find out who’s running for the Board of Education and who’s married to the teacher, who’s the former teacher, who’s the teacher and get them off the board! Find reputable intelligent moral persons in the community and get them to run as a write-in candidate. Send us their bios and we’ll support them. We have 400-700 readers every day and those readers will pass on what they think is good. Give it a shot; it can’t get any worse than it is now.

If you like what you’ve read on this blog send a link to a friend, a relative, your elected officials. Make your voice heard. You have power but you have to use it to better your life, your community, the future.

STOP THE SCANDAL!

“One Nation Under God”…Maybe not.

When students noticed that a teacher was not Saying the Pledge Correctly–He Omits “Under God” from the “One Nation Under God”–

The Teacher Justifies His Editing By Telling the Students He’s “An Atheist!”

And it's not negotiable in schools!

When offered an inch human beings tend to go for the whole 12 inches, and then want the stick you measured it with. Call it human nature but people need something bigger than themselves to keep them in line: rules, laws, parents, faith…God maybe?

One of the big problems that hit the world in the late 20th century was the great leveling of society and normalization of literally everything. No more differences, no more rules, no more nothing. Some called it freedom, others diversity, others still, chaos. We human beings need something higher than ourselves to guide us; when we tear down the gods, we have nothing but ourselves–and that’s trouble.

Just like the ancient Greeks and Romans. As long as the gods were mysterious, inexplicable, they were held in awe; once they started looking and acting like us they become comic strip characters. (The Jews did well by keeping Yahweh divine; thanks to them we got Chrisianity and Islam, and the Jews are still here with very alive morals and community, it’s why they stick together: they share.) Once the churches made everybody members of a “common priesthood”–all hell broke loose, literally. Equality is unnatural; necessity is natural.

But back to the subject of this post: a nation under what? God!

It’s been said that the American nation is a Christian nation (apologies to the Jews and Muslims and other faiths!)–only because the Christians were a majority and didn’t want to admit the Jews were really running things, albeit from the back room, a sort of Wizard of Oz scenario. Not to confess a belief in God or a god was unthinkable, monstrous! To be an atheist was to be an outcast, an outlier, even….communist (ask kids nowadays what that is. Thanks teachers!) Oh! How things have changed

We now have teachers in our schools, one in particular has come to our attention, let’s call him Matt Miller, who refuse to recite the pledge of allegiance words, “one nation under God,” and when asked Why? by students answers: “I’m an atheist.”

Scandalous! Why not put a white supremecist in the classroom teaching American history? Why not have a Southern Baptist teaching biology? What the hell is an atheist doing in the classroom with your kids? What bloody right does that atheist have to flaunt his personal defects in front of impressionable youth? I compare his statement to indecent exposure of his genitals but symbolically.

Look, once a person has reached a certain age and has gained life experience, that person can pretty much believe what he or she wants. Generally, school-age kids, even those in highschool, have not yet reached that phase in the life cycle. Sometimes, however, it’s to everyone’s benefit if it’s just kept to one’s self. But when one is placed in a highly privileged position, in a position in which the impressionable young are highly sensitive to what they see and hear, one loses some of one’s privileges of opinion, dissent, freedom of speech. The position of the teacher is precisely one such privileged position. Once a teacher forgets he has boundaries…he’s gotta go!

Here you are, parents, teaching your children good Christian or Jewish or Muslim or Buddhist, etc. morals and urging them to bible study, worship, to be good Jews, Christians, and Muslims, etc. whatever, to be God-fearing and good, and then you’re sidelined by some screwball at school influencing them, confusing them. Even if you leave spirituality and faith questions up to your kid to freely choose, what right does another adult have to unfairly influence that kid, your kid?

What are you going to do about it? Why not ask Mr Matt Miller, teacher and president of the RCS CSD teachers association, about his now-known-to-have-been published–by himself!–his moral meter or lack of it. How can someone who has no higher authority other than the crippled authority of humankind be an example or be trusted to make moral and ethical decisions? How does Mr Miller’s “atheism” affect his judgment, his interpretation of the world, his teaching? If he can’t keep his oddball beliefs to himself and out of earshot of students at the school, how can you trust  him? My personal answer would be: “You cannot trust someone with such lack of discretion.” It’s just plain scandalous!

Read another report brought home by RCS students to parents about Miller’s conversation with Vish, click Loose Lips.

It’s time now to put the Superintendent and the Board of Education on the spot: What are you going to do about this? What will you say when the public asks what you know about the teachers hired to teach in the district? It’s not that the questions might be asked…the question IS being asked.

This one you watch for.

This one admits it publicly.

The last elections booted the immoral clique, the adulterers, the phonies off of the board of education. They were all publicly supported by Matt Miller and his special-interest group, the RCS teachers association.

That was a step forward for the district. Now it’s time to look in the closets at the schools and get the skeletons out in the public’s view. Here’s a place to start: Ask Mr Miller about his public statements regarding the pledge of allegiance!

Like Community, Like Church

It All Comes Together: There’s a certain loose, but perverse, consistency in almost any community. What you find in the local government, law enforcement, courts, schools, you’re likely to find in the church communities, too. It’s only reasonable, because they bleed into and out of each other, don’t they?

Is this what it's all about?

Well, a couple of posts back, I mentioned a certain police investigator and his missus having had a notorious adulterous affair, and that same couple is active in the local church, the police investigator even serving a lay ministry as reader at liturgies.

The local priest has a certain reputation, too. He’s a bit of an eccentric, a maverick, and tends to piss people off. He and his deacon fit beautifully into the local community, if you catch my drift. Even if you don’t follow yet, follow this link to another blog and see what an ass-kicking Father James Kane is getting for a gross indecency concerning his conduct during a divine liturgy. Scandalous from the Roman Catholic point of view, embarassing, and pitious, too. Read more at Is Fr James Kane Really Fit to Be Pastor?

Problem was, it was broadcast!
